That should be the first team. It might not be, but it should be.

Mike Davis is not first team. I can see Battle on there but not Davis. He is a decent scorer and good rebounder but does little else. Doesn't block shots, doesn't get steals, can't shoot from out ... etc.

Mike Davis actually is a very good shooter up to about 16 feet. Not everyone needs to shoot threes. I'm also basing a lot of this off of assuming that Hummel will mis more time again as a back injury is one that tends to linger for a long time and at most points last year he didn't look anything like the player he was his frosh year.

We'll have to see. He played this summer for Painter in some World University tournament and had no issues. I read an article that Hummel said he has been cleared to remove the back brace but keeps wearing it because he can get back checked and not even feel it so its like protection. I'm guessing Painter will limit him some in the easy non-conference schedule so that he can play Hummel 30-35 minutes a game once we get into the Big Ten.

edit: oh and last off season he got the bacteria poisoning from the tomatoes in California and lost 25 pounds because of it. He didn't have to deal with that this season.

And Mike Davis had tonsilitis all conference season.

I don't necessarily disagree that a healthy Hummell has a better chance of being all Big 10, but Davis has such a high ceiling, that it's not out of the realm of possibility that he blows up this year to be B10 POTY. Not likely mind you, but certainly within the realm.

The Big 10 is going to be very good this season. And will probably be even better next year assuming they don't take too much early entry attrition. (Johnson, Harris, and Turner the only likely in my opinion)

Davis may very well make all-Big Ten after the season but I asked who would be preseason all-Big Ten. I highly doubt Davis makes the preseason team.

One of these years, IU basketball will contribute to my happiness again....I'm hoping the '11-'12 season is a realistic target...

But Tijan Jobe will be gone by then.

According to this, that might be exactly what IU needs. :D This is from Crean on the indystar blog talking about an injury to Rivers:

Again, Tijan caught somebody. I don't know what we're going to do with him. You can put a yellow jersey or a red jersey like they do in football on everybody, but we've got to put Tijan in some of the drills, and he does have the ability to hurt his teammates. I know he doesn't mean to, but goodness, gracious. We had a lot of firsts for the program last year, and obviously we had a lot of those firsts here at Indiana, but I've never been somewhere where a teammate knocks somebody out during warm-ups, like what Tijan did to Daniel Moore before the Minnesota game. That doesn't happen very often. Tijan is a great kid, he is just not aware of his size and strength some times."

Sounds like a service to the IU basketball team.

Duke picked up a commitment from PG Kyrie Irving. Good pick-up. Hopefully Barnes is next.

i think it'll be Duke or UNC. If you're curious, he gave a writeup of his visit to KU. Self's house sounds pretty over the top.

Yeah, sounds like Barnes will be playing in the state of North Carolina next season. I think KU is in 3rd, with Oklahoma, UCLA, and Iowa State still officially on his list, but longshots.

Barnes would really make it a great class for Duke. Especially when you consider that Seth Curry will be eligible next year as a sophomore and Andre Dawkins was originally signed in that class.

I'm just impressed UCLA is getting a visit from Barnes. Obviously no chance for him but that's still cool.

Yeah, spend another weekend in Ames, or go to Southern California and have one of the greatest programs in college basketball history roll out the red carpet for you. Tough choice.

Haha, fair enough.

I'm not really ready to buy into the Seth Curry hype yet.

Fair enough. I'll agree he would not have nearly the same hype if he was not a Curry.

However, he does have the same lightning-quick release as his brother. He can be a nice shooter off the bench and if his defense improves (which it should, he is an above-average athlete). He won't be asked to start or lead the team with Irving and Smith still there. If Singler stays, Curry will not even have to be a primary scoring threat. He should be able to help keep defenses honest and could certainly have a few big games.
