Penn State LB corps next year won't be great. All three starters from this year are now gone.

People said the same thing when OSU lost Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegel. PSU LB's will take a step back, sure, but Bowman and Lee both missed chunks of the year at the same time for a while, this year. I am confident PSU will find at least 3 solid linebackers from the pool of players that have been either redshirting (Mauti, Carson), playing special teams (Stupar, Yancich, Gbadyu, Colasanti), or not yet arrived on campus (Hull, Fortt, Royer).

This definitely is a strange time for PSU linebacker fans, though. No Posluszny, Connor, Shaw, Lee, Bowman, or Hull(43). That was quite a nice run of LB's over a short time period..

Probably not a surprise:

Less than 24 hours after helping Iowa to a win in the FedEx Orange Bowl, star left tackle Bryan Bulaga announced he's entering the NFL draft.

"This was not an easy decision since my Iowa experience has been very positive and rewarding," Bulaga said in a statement released through the school.

The indications are very strong that Jevan Snead will declare for the draft and forego his senior season at Ole Miss. A year ago at this time most analysts would have considered him an easy 1st round QB choice, however, his most recent season was pretty awful. As it stands now, if he were to come out he'd probably be a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder but lose out on all the big bucks. However, if he were to return to Ole Miss and have a strong senior season, that would push him back into the 1st round.

So what gives? Perhaps he is afraid of getting injured and not even getting drafted next season? I think the biggest factor pushing him toward the draft are the QB's that are sitting behind him at Ole Miss: Nathan Stanley and Raymond Cotton. Nutt has pretty much come out and said that there will be a QB battle in the spring. If Jevan were to lose his starting spot (I don't think he would) then obviously any NFL draft hope would be completely dashed.

Anyways, Good luck Jevan. 18 wins in two years at Ole Miss is pretty remarkable.

His measureables come combine time should help him out quite a bit. And there may be a team or two swayed by last season's success over this year's struggles. They'll see what he can potentially be with some development, perhaps.

If there will be a QB battle either way, he's probably smart to head to the NFL now - even if he drops a bit. With his measureables, though, I doubt he drops all the way to the third round. I'd think sometime in the second round - maybe to a team like the Rams if they don't go QB in the first round.

The answer to "what gives?" could be the strong possibility of a rookie salary cap being written into the new CBA beginning in 2011. This may be guys last chance to get big bucks with a rookie contract.

While if he jumps back into the first round next year, he would still make more than he will this year, even if they do institute a rookie cap, but if he stays the same, he might cost himself a great deal of money. I'm not saying that has anything do to with it, but it might.

That's also if there is football in 2011 or even a full season. Lockout has been a popular word this week, and might scare a lot of fringe prospects. I still think Snead should be a very good qb, but he will need to go the Aaron Rodgers route and sit for a couple of years. Snead is starting to remind me of Chris Simms except Simms was a much better college QB. Though I still believe Simms could be a successful NFL qb.

From what I've heard, the rookie cap would really only affect the top 5-10 picks in the draft. Everybody else is in the $1-5 million a year range in the first round and that's unlikely to change. The cap would really only affect the guys getting $15-20+ million guaranteed.

It's official: Jevan Snead will go pro. Just announced on ESPN.

I personally think he needed another year of develoipment, but if Snead thinks he's ready, then so be it.

I put this in the wrong thread, but Earl Thomas is going pro. This is a very defensive class year, more so than any I can remember in some time.

It was a very defensive year in college football, as well. This is shaping up to be a pretty exciting draft.

Dew, I'm in for a mock.

I'll probably just go ahead and start one up here pretty soon (probably this evening). Going by last year, I think the interest will be there, and I enjoy doing it. Especially with this draft, where so many teams could go in so many directions.

It seems a little early, but maybe that's just me not caring as much about the draft since Chicago won't be participating. I'd be happy to play along, and select for the Jets.

I'll probably do it like I did last year – make the thread now and leave it open for people to claim teams and make sure everybody has a chance to get involved. Then actually start the mock draft after the combine when we have more official info on the players.

I'll pick for the Raiders if I can select Tim Tebow in the first round.
