I DID get it, but if he's throwing in the upper 80's now, then I see little to no reason to have him in a top 30, or 40, for that matter.

Daury Torrez, Erick Leal, Tyler Skulina, and Ben Wells should be in a top 30, and he doesn't have them in the 40.

Torrez and Leal are in my 30. The other 2 aren't. I don't get the Ben Wells thing at all.

And Skulina is the only one of those four in my top 30. Heh.

Leal is intriguing to me. He more than held his own in AZ as an 18 year old and had a K/9 of 9.6 (9.0 in 2012). I have no idea what he throws but with those K numbers and what appears to be decent control (1.5BB/9) he is an under-the radar guy that is worth following. I get leaving him off though, given the depth of the system.

That's how I see it too. When he was a big kid who was projected to throw heavy fastball in the mid-90's, with decent control, he was a good projection prospect. But after the arm injury as a soft-tosser, I don't see the interest.

What does "bubbly" mean?

As in, they are on the bubble of the list?

Yeah I wonder that too, does that mean they are inconsistent, need to get their head on straight, always drunk? :P

Sickels sucks. He's also debating getting rid of Underwood. I honestly wonder if he has a single baseball source he talks to. Any of us can rank guys based on their stats and not much else, other than age versus level.

Yeah, waaayyy too early to be talking about that. Sure he's struggled so far but he's 19 for crying out loud!

I think that's just a testament to how deep this organization is. Plus, when you get down to top 30/40, it's all subjective anyway. I'm just glad the Cubs have guys worth mentioning that deep down the list.

Pirates have top system in baseball from BA. Not sure if we talked about this previously or not, Badler had kind of mentioned this a month or so ago.

Sickels hasn't released names, FWIW, but has us with 2 Grade A, an A-, 2 B+, 2 B, 5 B-, and 9 C+, yet calls us top heavy. Evidently he's now listing all July 2nd types as straight C's. As a side note, the Red Sox have less B- and higher grades and two more C+ or higher grades overall, and instead of "top heavy" they get a "very deep" comment.

Sickels hasn't released names, FWIW, but has us with 2 Grade A (Baez and Bryant), an A- Almora, 2 B+ (2 of Soler, Alcantara, CJ and Pierce - would say Soler and CJ most likely), 2 B (other two, probably Alcantara and Pierce), 5 B- (Candelario, Vogelbach, Villanueva, then I'm not sure), and 9 C+, yet calls us top heavy. Evidently he's now listing all July 2nd types as straight C's. My guesses as to the names with the grades. Not sure who else would get the B- grades, since there are so many in that B- C+ range (our 11-21 all C+ or better. I love it.) And yeah, we may technically be top heavy because our top is so good, but we're very deep as well.

Some Cub players were evidently in a car crash in the Dominican. Frandybde la Rosa is in the hospital.

Oh man. Hope everyone's okay.

Where did you hear this? I can't find anything on the Google.

Apparently Antonio Mejia is Jefferson Mejia: http://muskat.mlblogs.com/2014/01/06/16-cubs-prospects-injured/

Three Cubs prospects, including highly touted shortstop Frandy De La Rosa, survived a car accident in the Dominican Republic on Monday. Other players involved included pitchers Jose Zapata and Jefferson Antonio Mejia, who were riding with De La Rosa in a Toyota. De La Rosa, who turns 18 on Jan. 24, signed with the Cubs in July 2012. The three were hospitalized, but a source in the Dominican Republic tells MLB.com that the players were not seriously injured.

And that's officially the first time I really thought about the Cubs system as a whole since the beginning of last year. Really something that Brett Jackson might not crack the top 30 in the system right now.

Jackson isn't top 40 in a normal assessment of our system.
