Isn't BA's new lead guy (name is escaping me right now) the one who thinks CJ is one of the top 5 SP prospects in the game or something like that?

If so, that has to help our ranking quite a bit.

John Manuel? He was the guy that said he liked CJ more than Snydergaard.

Yeah, but he backed off that a bit since. I remember reading from one of the BA guys that as many as 9 Astros may make their top 100. And Correa as a top 5 type, with Springer and Appel as top 25's, will help cancel out our big 4. Their depth(according to BA anyway) likely puts them 1st in their rankings.

Still, you'd have to think he regards CJ quite highly, and it becomes a big 5 from that perspective.

True, but that's likely all we'll get from BA. They won't have Alcantara in their top 100. PJ is a 50/50 guess. They'll have Correa top 5, Springer and Appel top 25, McCullers and Foltynewicz top 50, Singleton and Ruiz as definite top 100's, and Santana and DeShields in the same boat as Pierce is for us. That's what I've figured based on their chats and Twitter replies.

I'm with Kyle-I'll be surprised if we're not 1st for someone.

100 percent chance someone puts us first because all cubs fans are prospect obsessed weirdos and it's good click bait.

It's all we have.

In all seriousness, I don't really care where they are ranked. It's nice and all but it's just opinions, I'll be positively gidy when the big club starts winning and the real proof will show. Edited by CubinNY

The question is what would lead to more eyeballs, a #1 ranking or something outside the top 5? Give it a 6 and some people will freak the F out.

Oh yeah, a 6 would definitely cause a freak out.

But I think less people would click on it

Bryant was just on ESPN 1000, didn't offer up anything too crazy, but he's a really solid interview.

* Said he loves playing 3B, it's his most comfortable position. "I have a lot of work to put in over there." Agreed with the host that his height helps him get to some balls you might not expect a 3B to get to, but that a smaller guy can get to stuff "to the right" that he might not get to. "I'm working on that, trying to perfect it."

* Said he widened his stance because, as a tall guy, he can't get to low pitches as well. Said it helps keep his head still and keeps him from moving toward the ball. Jesse Rogers said the stance looked like "Dave Kingman or Albert Pujols."

* Said the team didn't instruct him to work on anything specific during the AFL, just that they "want me to get comfortable seeing sharp sliders and good pitching, so that carrying into next season I'll be more comfortable at the plate when seeing a pitcher throw four pitches for a strike, at 95 mph"

* Said he considers himself a good base runner and that his base running is an overlooked part of his game.

* Said he grew up a Red Sox fan because his father was drafted by them, but the entire family had converted to Cubs fans (unfortunate timing)

* Said he always believes he's the best player on the field, but doesn't like to show it externally.

* He gave scouting reports on Almora and Soler that were basically what we know already.

On Almora: "Screams baseball player." Gets incredible reads that he's never seen before. Great hitter. Great eye. Great patience. Has power that people don't give him credit for. "Launches balls in BP"

On Soler: "Freak of nature. One of the biggest guys I've played with. I'm scared when he's taking BP and I'm at third base. Cannon for an arm. Covers a lot of ground."

Sharma with a fluff piece on Almora...

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/20462/almora-confident-in-future-with-cubs

“To be honest, I’m confident in my game,” Almora said. “I’m not trying to sound cocky or arrogant here, but it’s the same game, the pitchers are just smarter. They throw a little harder than what I’m used to seeing, but after a week of 98 (mph) every day... I’m not saying it’s easy, but you see it better. As a player, I might be 19, but I’m ready, I’m ready to play against all these guys. Age is nothing but a number. I feel like I’m capable of playing and my baseball IQ is the same as these guys'.”
