Blog entry comparing this prospect class to 2002.

And LOL at him referencing Kyle.

Wow, I remember liking Nic Jackson a lot, but didn't realize he was recognized as a top 100 guy.

Of all the guys I've seen in person, Nic Jackson *looked* like a ball player.

David Kelton. If I saw him walking down the street, I'd think "hey, that dude's a baseball player"

Frank (NY)

Your opinion on Kris Bryant. Future multiple AS, AS or just a guy.

Klaw (1:08 PM)

Future All-Star. Will hit and hit for power. I still think he can stay at third if the Cubs want him to.

Enjoyed reading that and it makes a lot of sense.

So if recent history holds true we can expect about 5-6 of those guys to ML caliber and contribute (~3 will play above average). Would have no problem hitting on either Baez or Bryant (although I think it will be both), Almora, 1 of Edwards or Pierce.

For fun, an example. Could easily switch some of the names around:

GOOD/ABOVE AVERAGE GROUP

Baez

Almora

Pierce Johnson

Alcantara

AVERAGE AT BEST GROUP

Bryant

Soler

CJ Edwards

I tend to agree. He's at least the most likely to be above average. I love Baez as much as the next guy, but that swing is so awesomely violent I can see injury derailing him.

Almora, whose family emigrated from Cuba to Florida before he was born, has been an invaluable companion to Soler in that adjustment. The two have been like brothers since they reported to the Cubs minor league facility within weeks of each other in July 2012. It’s really been a valuable experience for both young men.

“To be honest, we do everything together,” Almora, the Cubs’ 2012 first-round pick, said. “Whenever he gives me advice, I listen. Whenever I give him advice, he listens. My advice to him isn’t baseball-related, it’s just life-related, like this is how it is here. He’s a very good listener, he’s very smart. It’s definitely a mutual relationship . . . We talk between each other and we have a great relationship.”

Almora’s parents and Soler’s father are visiting Arizona while their respective sons are playing ball. It’s important for Soler to have that family tie since his mother and sister are still in Cuba. His dad, who has been preparing their native Cuban food while in Arizona, will be leaving soon, after which the Almora family will make sure Soler is taken good care of in his father’s absence.

“When his dad leaves we will have him at our house,” Almora said, “and he will be eating Cuban food. That will do him good.

Almora's dad was probably some night club owner or something.

Cubs system getting some #rig from Parks

Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 52s

An early draft of the BP 101 has three #Cubs prospects in the mix for top ten consideration. That's #rig.

Great Odin's Raven.

Quick someone complain about his use of slang.

It cracks me up that Parks doesn't like Edwards to even be an MLB starter for durability reasons, but he loooooves Almora. I'll take it.

Well, to be fair, it is (seemingly, at least) much harder to be and stay a healthy major league starting pitcher than it is to be an everyday position player.

At a baseline yes, but with the two players in question, one hasn't had any injury problems at all, and the other has missed like 70 games in 1.5 years with a couple different injuries.

And yet, the pitcher who hasn't had any injury problems at all just hasn't had his injury yet.

ChicagoCubsOnline ‏@TheCCO now

RT @ProfessorParks Almora might be #Cubs top prospect. RT @dixonm13 @ProfessorParks Baez,Bryant,Edwards? Can't see Almora or Soler there yet

The point isn't that Parks is wrong with his impression of Edwards(although personally I think he is), the point is that the logic he uses to claim Edwards is an MLB reliever isn't compatible with him being over the moon for the already oft-injuried Almora, to the point where he says crazy things like him being a better prospect than Baez and Bryant.
