If Theriot sac bunts in the first inning of his own accord, Lou should slap him in the face when he gets back to the dugout. If Lou orders him to sac bunt in the first inning, Lou should be fired.

Yeah, like Truffle (I think) said in the game thread, whoever decided to bunt made a stupid decision.

Up 5-2 in the 9th with 2 outs and only 1 runner on...Why do you bring in Kevin Gregg? Let him have a day off come on

Really?

Yes, really.

Really what? It would have been nice to get Gregg a day off, and there was no reason to bring him in right there. Let Shark get the 1 out and if he cant do it and they get within range to tie it then bring in Gregg. Gregg pitched in every game of the series and threw alot of pitches Friday. We are in a stretch of 30 games in 31 days, when you have a chance to rest him, it needs to be done.

Gregg was already up in the pen - and I think he should have been - so I don't think coming in for one batter caused any undue stress to his arm. It would have been very nice to give him the day off and if Shark had enjoyed an easy 9th, Gregg may not have even gotten up in the pen. Since he did, though, I don't have a big problem with him coming in.

If y'all don't get it, so be it...I'll give you this- I guarantee the clubhouse 100% loved the move.

I dont even know what this is supposed to mean. Do they all have him on their fantasy team or something?

Gregg has less knee trouble when he comes in at some point after warming up. If it's better for his knee to throw 5 pitches at the end, I have no problem with it.

Wait, this can't be true. If he warms up in the pen, his knee won't hurt if he actually gets into the game? Ok, after Shark gets the last guy out, have some rookie grab a bat and stand at the plate while Gregg gets him out. I can't believe throwing any amount of pitches from the mound rather than the bullpen mound has any effect on his knee, let alone as few as 5.

The problem is once he's warm, he can't sit and then warm back up again later. They figure once he's warm, he's "used". But instead of just saying, oh well we don't need him, they actually do use him. Which is kind of stupid.

That said, I would think it would be funny to watch them take the field after the game to get his 5 throws in to fix his knee everytime he warms up but doesn't pitch. It would be like high school when your coach made your team take infield practice right after a sloppy loss, but the opposite.

I was thinking that Lou only bringing in Gregg for 1 out the last 2 games was his way of giving him a bit of a rest, although he still needs to get up, warm up, etc.

That may be, but I think he didn't want to even get him up yesterday - hence why he began the inning with Shark. But, Shark struggled a lot and Gregg got up anyway - so I don't see a big problem with him being used once he had gotten up.

I was following this one on my phone, but wasn't it still a save situation when the bottom of the 8th started? Therefore Gregg was likely up anyway. And then they went to Samardzija once they extended the lead, correct?

I don't get not having a problem with them using him once they already warmed him up. Actually using him is added stress. Having him warm up but not using him isn't ideal rest, but it's more restful than actually bringing him into the game to pitch, again.

He was already up warming in the bottom of the eighth, I forgot.

I would have preferred if he had not been used, but at the same time with Shark not pitching well I can understand the desire to bring him in and try to stomp out the rally before it got any further.

Gregg has been quoted saying the whole getting up, then down, then getting back up thing only bothered his knee in the early part of the season, because of the cold weather. Hes said in the warm weather its fine.

He was up in the 8th, sat back down, then had to get back up in the 9th when Shark gave up 2 hits. Had the tieing run came to the plate, fine bring him in. But there was no logical reason to bring him in after Shark got the 2nd out.

Yeah, I can understand the desire as well. The point is over a 162 game season you need to bypass using your best relief options on occasion when the opportunity arises. So you overcome that short-term desire by thinking about the longterm ramifications.

Once he starts warming off, it's not longer an "off day" for him, so having him face one batter isn't a big deal.

It was no guarantee he was only going to face 1 batter. Also there is a difference between warming up, and coming in the game.

With that said, Id expect Marmol to close tonight, with Gregg not even being in the bullpen.
