Aaron Miles is expected to be sidelined through the weekend with a sore right shoulder.

Miles is battling Mike Fontenot for the second base job and there are indications that the Cubs may be leaning toward making him a utility man.

Not much to say about this, but i suppose it's worth passing on.

Gee, you don't say. What an interesting idea, having this guy who can't play everyday play some sort of backup role at multiple positions, starting on occasion.

it's like he's a considerably worse, comparably priced version of say mark derosa.

what are you talking about? derosa makes more than two times what miles makes. if you're gonna bitch about trading derosa and signing miles (which is perfectly valid) in the offseason, at least have the facts straight.

Jesus, dude - who peed in your cornflakes? Miles is making 2+million and DeRosa is making 5+ million this year. All he said is that the prices were comparable. Yes it's double his salary but in the grand scheme of things when you have players making 15-20 mil, the ~3M difference between the two players is certainly comparable.

The Cubs also owe Miles $5m total over the two years. I'd rather pay DeRosa $5m for 1 year than Miles $5m for 2. Although comparable is still probably a stretch when talking solely about their current salaries, $3.3m is a pretty significant gap.

Fair enough.

wait, you're the guy who was arguing about how successful high school dropouts are, right? all the sudden you're a stickler for pin point accuracy when it comes to numbers?

disagree. i don't see 2 and 5 million being comparable at all. when fielding a roster of 25 guys, 3 million is certainly significant.

are you capable of staying on point?

and no, i wasn't arguing how successful dropouts are. i was arguing that it's incredibly stupid of our president to call people who do so "dropouts". but of course you know this, you're just trying to defer the topic from your ridiculous claim about miels/derosa's salaries that you've been called out on.

dude, their payroll is like $150 mil. in baseball terms, a difference of ~$3 mil isn't much.

their payroll is around 138 million. and when you have 7 guys on your roster making 10 million and above, 3 million dollars is very significant when it comes to composing your 25 man roster. dude.

They're not comparable salaries when one is more than twice as much as the other.

Disagree. A guy making the $400,000 minimum is comparable to a guy making $800,000. The higher the payroll, the higher the discrepency of "comparable". For a team like the Cubs, that regularly throws significant amounts of money in the toilet, it's bigger than most. But $3.3m this year is probably beyond the furthest end. The fact that they are owed the same total is somewhat meaningful, especially when you consider the possibility that Miles could be a net negative to the team if they feel obliged to keep him there throughout his age 33 season.

Which is why it's a damn shame they are wasting nearly $3m on Aaron Miles this year.

OMG you guys are still talking about Aaron Miles? Ok we get it you don't like him or his contract. That sucks, but thats the going rate for his type of player this offseason. Five to seven very simliar players signed very simliar contracts. Get over it, he's fine helping Fontenot out against tough LH pitchers, and he'll be a upgrade over Cedeno offensivly off the bench most likely. Plus giving Fontenot more playing time, and saving 3.3m the reason DeRosa was traded. Then we signed Miles because he was one of the better back up middle infielders on the market at the time, to help our bench after losing Fontenot from it and knowing we were gonna get rid of Cedeno still. Anyone who can't see that or realize it, just wants to complain to complain then. Edited by cubsfan26

There was a story that he has a sore shoulder, so, yeah, people are talking about him.

And while they saved some money, they got worse at the same time, that's just the fact, not complaining for the sake of complaining.

Name them.

And if true, it proves that 5-7 other GMs made horrible signings. The Cubs just signed a guy in German, who could fill Miles's role just as well.

Aaron Miles blows.

Talk about his injury, and how were gonna replace them then. Or how much time we think he will miss or whatever then. I really gotta learn not to pay attention to this stuff. But I'm just sick of seeing every thread turn into complaining about Miles or DeRosa.
