Fukudome up now

This Cuban kid (Chapman)'s pick-off move is sick, picked off two guys in a row that he walked. He has a huge slow leg kick so they thought they could run all day on him.

Japan v.s. Cuba on now, should be a great game.

Dice-K going against a kid from Cuba who's a lefty and supposedly hit 102 mph on the gun down in Cuba.

Chapman needs to defect and sign with the Cubs.

I just watch Fukudome strike out for the 3rd time. It maybe just me, but I just don't see Fukudome having a good year for the Cubs. Fukudome has look horrible at the plate today.

Cue the "this looks like a real Marlins game" joke. Not a ton of people there.

Brian Roberts taking Chipper Jones's spot on the roster.

Was it a Fukucopter?

He had a couple of Fukucopter"swings. His last strike out was a call third. Fukudome look exactly like he did last yr. I don't expect a good year from Fukudome.

I'm concerned that Lilly isn't going to have enough preparatory innings this spring. Here's his game action so far:

2/27 vs. Texas (with Cubs): 2 IP, 2 H, 2 K, unknown pitch count (20-25, maybe?)

Nearly two weeks later...

3/11 vs. Venezuela (with Team USA): 3 IP, ER, 2 K, 36 pitches

and he won't pitch again until Wednesday of this week, a week after he last pitched. If he were in camp with the Cubs, he'd have made at least 2 and possibly 3 more starts in that span. Is anyone else concerned he just won't be stretched out enough by the time the spring ends?

I watched a bit of the Cuba/Japan game, and there are at least 2 other Japanese hitters who have the exact same swing as Fukudome

I think we should step up and sign some of these Netherland players.

I was thinking last night that Englehardt might make a decent power bat off the bench. That could just be because we're so devoid of bench power, though.

Not really. He's basically in-line with Zambrano and Harden. And even if he doesn't get a lot of games, he can still work on the side in simulated games. We are 3 weeks away, and the USA could be eliminated soon. Plus, it's not like he has to pitch in game 3. Marshall could easily slot into one of those starts, and Lilly can go in game 4 or 5, which are 25/26 days away.

The first replay overturn ever (or at least that I know of) just happened in the Puerto Rico-Venezuela game. Someone hit the ball over the scoreboard in Florida, but it bounced back onto the field of play and was originally ruled a triple. Took about six minutes to review.

I figured he would pitch today against PR, setting up the possible Geo/Lilly matchup. I'm sure he's getting some live pitching in for the hitters. Think of how all those stars are only getting a few ABs. I'm not too worried.

MIAMI -- Despite appearances, the World Baseball Classic is still awaiting its first use of instant replay.

Umpires conferred for nearly 10 minutes regarding a ball hit by Venezuela's Ramon Hernandez. And though it appeared that the umpiring crew went to the video to determine whether Hernandez's ball was a home run, the replay system at Dolphin Stadium did not function for the umpires' use.

"The replay was not reviewed," said crew chief Ed Rapuano. "They couldn't get me the replay in the locker room on the replay board."

Yeah, I don't see how Ichiro hits 220 this year in the majors from what I've seen in the world baseball classic vs. pitchers he's either never seen in his life or hasn't seen in years.

Fukudome looked exactly the same from the latter part of 2008 as he did against Cuba. Ichiro has proven he can played in the majors, Fukudome has proven he can't hit anything away from him with any consistancy. So that comparasion, not valid.
