This is not good...Carlos wanted so bad to pitch for his country and took so much pride in it. He came in to close out the weak hitting Netherlands and advance his country to the second round. Instead he blew the game and got the DR eliminated. This is the kind of performance that will get in his head and stay there for awhile IMO

I just went back and watched and Marmol was punching in the dugout. Not good.

That or provide motivation for him to go on a tear and not give up a single hit all season while striking out every batter he faces on 3 pitches. I'm praying for that one.

If he is that mentally fragile he was not going to last long in the closer's role anyway.

Haha, classic UMF. It's not even the middle of March and you're panicking.

That's inexcusable. You can't be risking your pitching hand if you blow a game in the playoffs, let alone a game now.

When the Cubs were on WGN on saturday Len & Bob were talking to Rothschild and he was saying that him and Marmol were working on stuff before he left for the WBC and that they didn't everything done that they wanted to before he left, sounded like mechanical stuff. So I will just, hopefully, attribute that to Marmol not quite being "right" yet. I want Gregg to win the closer job anyways as Marmol in the 6/7/8>Marmol in the 9th/closing, so maybe this will push Lou in favor of giving Gregg the, overrated, Closer role. Has Gregg even pitched in ST? I haven't heard much about him.

I think it's a fair point.

If he DOES struggle people will naturally conflate what happened in the WBC to his on field performance. Even if they're unrelated he'll be bombarded by the media asking if he has a hangover from what happened in the WBC and maybe then it gets in his head. There's no reason to panic but it sure doesn't help.

Wooohooo

now we have another excuse why the world baseball classic stinks. It ruins players psyches. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marmol completely out of baseball in a year. Fellow sportswriters celebrate!
