Considering how injury prone the core of this team is as far as Soriano, Bradley, and Ramirez, I wish they would overspend on someone Wigginton and put him in the Derosa type role. Start at 2B vs. LH'er as well as play the OF when Soriano and Bradley get hurt.

agreed. that's why derosa was really useful; you could shift him to LF or 3B when the inevitable ARam/soriano injury happened and not suffer a huge drop off when you slot fontenot in at 2B. now you're dropping off from ARam to aaron miles. call me crazy but i don't think aaron miles can give acceptable production for a corner infielder.

Bako is horrible and I hope the Cubs either stick with Hill or can find a backup catcher who can at least hit a little.

No such thing. Unless you want your backup catcher to be a Matt LeCroy or Michael Barrett type defensive catcher. Catchers that can hit a little and be good fielders are starters. Hence that's why guys like Brian Schneider make 5-6 mill a year.

Isnt that where Reed Johnson steps in?

No one doubts Reed's ability to grow facial hair, but I'm not sure that the small, furry creature currently residing on his chin can accurately be called a "scruff."

Fangraphs UZR has Uribe as an above-average defensive middle infielder, and his projections for 2009 are generally around a .700 OPS (albeit heavy on the SLG).

If we didn't already have more than enough middle infielders, we could do worse for the position.

Uribe would be Neifi '09
In other words, he'll save the Cubs. :D

Don't even joke about that.

One game ended when Neifi Perez unsuccessfully tried to bunt for a single with the tying run on second.

   :swoon: :sorry:

I'm loving the sig.

Wasn't Neifi somehow responsible for two runs scoring on a sacrifice fly at one point?

Bottom of the 9th, 1 out, Andruw Jones flies to deep right, Jones hits the cutoff man (Neifi) who drops the throw and then fires a bad throw towards home, allowing the tying and go-ahead runs to score. A new low point for the 2006 season, which was saying something, as I'm sure everyone remembers.

man, hendry doesn't know how to build a bench.

Then I suggest Hendry hire Bob Vila.

I'd prefer this guy:

His manually powered tools are more eco-friendly.

uribe has pretty good power against lefties, but that's about his only use on offense.

i'd love to have nomar on the bench, he torched lefties last year. the phillies want him. not sure if he'd want to come back here, if the cubs wanted him back.
