I've always wondered what caused Jerome Williams to fall off a cliff after 2005. In the last month of 2005, he was pitching pretty well and seemed like he could have been a fixture in the Cubs' rotation in 2006. Then...nothing.

I'm wishing him the best and hope he can salvage his career.

Jerome Williams was the pitching equivilent of Matt Murton for message board experts. Everyone was so convinced that their partial seasons meant translation to season long production. Sadly, baseball got in the way of those predictions.

I don't think that's accurate.

Jerome Williams had about 375 IP of ~110 ERA+ pitching before the age of 24. It'd be one thing if he wore out at 150 IP and got hurt or started sucking, but he fell off the face of the earth(< 45 IP after age 24).

Weren't there some strange quotes about him wanting to leave the game or something and having his brother and/or dad talk him into staying? And wasn't there also a weight/health question about him? Or am I making this all up? He's the Hawaiian with the necklace right?

There were issues surrounding his weight/conditioning.

The leaving the game part seems familiar, but I'm not sure. As for the other two questions:

No you are correct. He seems to have some mental issues.

I honestly thought getting Jerome Williams was one of the best trades Hendry had made at the time. He seemed like someone who could be a solid starter for years. Not so much, I guess.

Aardsma too. Neither turned into much,(Though Aardsma turning into a functional Neal Cotts is worth more than Hawkins was) but that was a great trade by Hendry.

Williams was pitching for the Shreveport Independent League team a few years ago.

Add Omar Vizquel to the Rangers. Considering hes argueably the best defensive short stop since Ozzie Smith, youd think someone would have given him a major league deal as a back up. In all seriousness, if Ronny were traded in a Peavy deal, Id take him as a back up. His offensive production couldnt be much worse.

Umm you need to check Vizquels stats for last year, and rethink your statement about offensive production. Vizquel sucks offensively
