Yea, we Cubs fans have it so bad.

Would be much better to be a Pirates fan. Or a Royals fan. Or a Mets fan even.

Actually, there are plenty of teams who have won much more recently who I still wouldn't rather be fans of. Phillies, for one.

Yankees and Red Sox are the only ones who have something like what we have. No nonsense about a curse is going to change my mind about that.

Actually, everyone has won one more recently than the Cubs.

Not true. Nobody has waited as long as the Cubs, but the Padres, Astros, Brewers, Mariners, Rangers, Nationals, Rockies, and Rays have not won more recently than the Cubs because they have never won a WS.

yup yup

lmfao, yea, i should calm down. i'm well known to fly off the handle here.

I think it's pretty cool to be a Cubs fan also. Sometimes it's so maddening watching this team and the moves, or lack of, made by the inept front offices throughout the year.

I couldn't think of another team to root for though, being able to watch baseball the way it was meant to be played, with 9 players hitting and fielding, during the day, with the stands packed with knowledgeable fans, and a nice collection of good-looking women to distract you from the action on the field.

The best part...we're not White Sox fans.

Anyone else feel the same way about the Cubs sale as the BCS? I can't make myself care anymore.

The BCS has ruined college football for me. New Years Day used to be a day to set aside and watch football all day long, but now the games are stretched out over weeks and it's just too much.

If the BCS ruined college football for you, you obviously weren't that big of a fan to begin with. And the BCS didn't cause the games to be spread out over weeks, television did.

I don't see why anyone would care. What is the attraction of having 3 games on at the same time anyway? Wouldn't a real fan want them spread out so they could actually watch them all?

Consecutive days would be nice.

What's your definition of a "real fan?" I've heard plenty of people complain that the New Year's day slate was really weak this year. I spent more time & energy watching Blackhawks hockey on that day than football. I don't think the complaint is out of line.

With tax savings in mind, Tribune Co. considered taking some non-cash considerations from a buyer that would pay out over time. In bankruptcy, the company is more conscious of getting as much cash upfront as possible, sources said.

"My impression is that creditors are now much more focused on cash, even if it's not as tax efficient," said a person close to one of the bidders who did not want to be identified because the sales process is ongoing.

The never-ending auction hasn't ended.

Tribune Co., owner of the Chicago Cubs as well as the Chicago Tribune, was pushing prospective buyers to submit their final bids for the team, Wrigley Field and related assets by the end of last week. But the media company was flexible with the deadline, said people familiar with the discussions.

As one source said Monday, "In an auction you are always given the opportunity to improve your bid one last time."

Yet the finish line remains near. The last-minute jockeying likely will delay the selection of a winning bid by a few days, sources said. It's in Tribune Co.'s best interests to keep the bidding alive to squeeze the last possible dollar from the Cubs. The company also has other constituents to satisfy: its creditors and a bankruptcy judge. Tribune Co., controlled by Chicago real estate investor Sam Zell, filed for bankruptcy reorganization Dec. 8.

Bet that Cuban sneaks back in?

He left the door open on his blog.

Delay tactics are only going to work for the Trib for so long. That bankruptcy judge is going to come calling, they need to close this thing soon. It's too bad it had to go down during a horrible recession, but nothing can be done about that now.

I pray for an owner who will actually help the Cubs win, and not treat the Cubs as merely an asset to be milked. I'm not sure I can pinpoint one of these guys as being "the one" who will definitely do that above all others. Cuban was my first choice because I've seen him actually turn a pro franchise around. Not that we need a total turnaround.

What ever happend to the good old days of slapping the largest wad of cash on the table gets the team?

I'm starting to believe the new owner will have been the candidate that sold the most Tribune subscriptions in the last month.

I'd like to see the size of the table that would hold the largest bid.

It's always been that way. These deals have always been structured to avoid taxes and other considerations.

Tomorrow would be a good day to announce the winning bidder.

In fact, a source reiterated Wednesday that starting another round of trade talks with the San Diego Padres for Peavy probably would require owner Sam Zell settling on a finalist in the bidding for the team. And with the most recent deadline being pushed back again, it doesn't look like the Cubs will have that kind of ownership clarity for the foreseeable future -- at least not soon enough to foresee getting Peavy by Opening Day.

Wasn't this supposed to be done by LAST spring training? They are never going to sell this friggin' team.

Wall Street Journal is saying that the bidding could be wrapped up this week.

After a nearly two-year process, Sam Zell and Tribune Co. plan to name a winning bidder for the Chicago Cubs by the middle of the coming week, according to two people involved with the bidding.

Tribune, which last month filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, has a board meeting scheduled for early in the coming week where executives handling the sale of the baseball franchise plan to review the competing bids and recommend a winning party.

If the board accepts the recommendation, Tribune will then inform the bidders and the different entities in the bankruptcy case about the decision

I'll believe it when I see it. This process seems like it's been going on for 10 years now.

From what I've heard from articles and posters here, it seems that Ricketts is our best bet after Cuban. I'm still pissed Cuban got screwed out of it, but Ricketts sounds decent.
