Padres outfielder Brian Giles is being sued for more than $10 million by a former girlfriend who alleges he battered her while pregnant and caused her to suffer a miscarriage.

The suit, filed in San Diego Superior Court, states the abuse began in 2002. It accuses Giles of “hitting and slapping plaintiff in the face; pushing plaintiff; shaking plaintiff; kicking plaintiff; hitting plaintiff in the chest; knocking plaintiff to the floor, battering plaintiff twice when she was pregnant with the parties' child, causing plaintiff to suffer a miscarriage.”

Not excusing what Giles did in the slightest (I've expressed my eye for an eye ideas before) but it does say she was at a bar. Why was she at the bar when pregnant? Could be why he got pissed off. Obviously beating a woman is never even remotely ok and Giles should be sent to jail if all this is true which it certainly looks like it is.

I'd put the number at about 10% of professional athletes that are good people.

Combine the obsessive, narcissistic personality required to be excellent at anything with constant praise for aggressiveness and domination from an early age.

Why was she at the bar when pregnant?

It is possible to go to a bar and not drink. My wife is a few months pregnant with twins, but we'll still meet some friends out at a bar occasionally to watch a game. And since the DC bars are smoke-free, she isn't exposed to smoke either.

With money, guaranteed contracts and a strong boys will be boys don't rat on your teammate mentality.

I think the number is higher than 10% though, probably much higher.

I saw a video yesterday and didn't see how it was evidence of anything.

really? he grabs her, pulls her away behind that curtain and all the sudden you can see her tumbling to the ground.

that's most likely what happened.

The video I saw, without any sort of narration, didn't show grabbing or pulling. It showed him walk in at a normal rate, and then both leaving. It was pretty boring, like the one with Pierce at the strip club.

He was probably trying to get gum out of her hair.

As for her falling, I'm sure he was all like "He, let's try that crazy twirl dancing I saw in "Swingers" real quick" and he accidentally dropped her. Verteran's Committee happens

Most of the bars I've ever been in, you knock a woman to the floor, you best be running for the door.

He was already out the door. Which is the same place Myers punched his wife, correct?

Oh. I thought he took her to an adjacent room rather than outside. That video is pretty hard to tell much of anything.
