I also haven't really been paying too much attention or reading too much about the Raiders this year. The extent of my Raiders interest this year is occasionally watching their games and reading whatever Raider story I put in the paper when I do layout on Monday night.

And I've never really known much about coaches other than the head coach and some about the offensive and defensive coordinators.

Hard to blame you.

How has the offensive line been this year (if you've been paying enough attention)?

i'm really not looking forward to the time when my favorite team will be changing coaches every 3-5 years

I don't think that will happen. We're gonna hire from within (Tom Bradley) and give him a very long leash, because Paterno will be sitting in the background making it so.

Or do you mean 20 years down the road?

20 years down the road, joe paterno might still be coaching penn state.

Not sure when that will be.

I hear Cowher's and (from extremely back channel whispers) Saban's names associated with that job when it opens. I don't see either of those being a 3-5 year job. Well... Saban, maybe.

Cowher would be the dream, but Paterno will more or less demand that Tom Bradley gets the promotion when he steps down.

That said, I see no reason that Penn State won't be like any other school in terms of coaches in the future. Paterno is a complete anomaly in the modern coaching world (along with Bowden) in that they've survived some poor seasons due to their reputation and long-standing contributions. If any other coach had posted losing seasons in 4 out of 5 years (like PSU did in the late 90's/early 00's) they would have been canned for sure. A new PSU coach won't have all the rope Paterno has had

Not very good. But when you've got a guy like Kwame Harris starting, that shouldn't really be too surprising.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but ESPN said the Humanitarian Bowl has sold 24 tickets so far. 16 to Maryland and 8 to Nevada. That is hilarious.

Iowa State got turned down by Turner Gill. :rotfl:

He was most fan's top choice, but I pretty much expected this. If you're getting interviewed by Auburn already why would you come here? The only risk he's taking is that Buffalo regresses significantly next year (possible considering they were pretty lucky this year). As for realistic candidates, I could try to name a few but I've learned that's pretty futile when Pollard is leading the job search. Two years ago everyone was convinced Brain Kelly would be introduced as coach tomorrow and Chizik wasn't even on the radar even though the interviews were held in Dallas.

You guys want Matt Eberflus off our hands? We'll even pay his contract for you.

Tyrell Sutton had the pins in his wrist removed and he returned to practice today. He'll be wearing a brace, but he's going to play. That not only gives us a chance at having an effective running game, but it also improves our passing game with his great receiving skills and pass blocking, as well. Add to that the fact that Vince Browne, the other questionable player for the bowl, returned to practice today and Bacher should have his finger and leg injuries all healed up, I'm excited.

Take Brent Venables.

Disassociated Tennessee booster Roy Adams (who is still supremely connected) reporting that Orgeron to Tennessee is a done deal. Still also hearing that Trooper Taylor is a possibility to rejoin the staff, as well.

If all this plays out, Kiffin has built an unbelievable recruiting staff.

That's great news! Hopefully they'll be as good a coaching staff as they are a recruiting staff (Monte obviously is).

As a Mizzou fan, I'm not sure that I like this. I could definitely see UT becoming a big factor in Missouri for the 1-3 big time recruits that the state produces each year.

There's now one less Dick at Arkansas.

Redshirt freshman Nathan Dick, who started the final two games of the 2008 season, asked for and was granted a release from his Arkansas scholarship. According to Arkansas, it was not a "blanket release" meaning Dick can only transfer to schools he told the Razorbacks he was considering.

Actually, Casey's a senior, so the Razorbacks are now Dickless.

And in this case, that's a good thing.

Morrell Presley - the top rated tight end in the country - just switched his verbal from USC to UCLA. :) He'd be the top rated offensive player to come to UCLA since Marcedes Lewis.
