To be fair, I'm not sure if Carroll is doing that or not with Penn State.

I just found it surprising that Penn State isn't even a possiblity when they were so close to nabbing him and his dad so desperately wanted Vidal to go there out of high school (if you remember, his dad threatened to not sign the LOI and all that stuff) and ventured a guess that that's what was up. Carroll has told previous transfers that certain school would be off limits and he wouldn't limit himself to disallowing just the other Pac-10 teams.

well that's pretty crappy of carroll; it's not like penn state is a rival of usc.

They are playing on January 1...conceivably Hazelton could give Penn State a lot of information if he transferred before then.

Although I'm not sure how you guys know Carroll isn't letting Hazelton go to Penn State. What in the article says that? Maybe he just wants to go to Mizzou?

Yes, it was just speculation on my part (I did say "I guess") back there.

Carroll has limited the options of previous transfers, though.

so which schools, basically any school that has a decent chances of contending for a conference or national title in the next 3 years? most usc guys aren't going to want to transfer to indiana or vanderbilt.

he can give penn state a lot of information right now, as long as he owns a telephone or computer.

I'll take outrageously flimsy reasoning for $800, Alex.

you're the one with terrible reasoning. are you suggesting that he's not releasing him from his scholarship because he could give info to penn state? he's not on the usc football team any more; there's absolutely nothing stopping him from giving penn state inside info about usc, unless carroll is holding him in a jail cell through new year's day.

I can sorta understand him wanting to transfer to Missouri, but Rutgers?

Penn State is graduating their top 3 WR's this year, so it seems like the perfect time to slide in, even if it requires sitting for a year. On second thought, Penn State has no idea who their QB will be in 2010, so....

Carroll let Moody transfer to Florida so I don't think there's anything specific about national title caliber programs that would stop him from letting a player transfer to one.

Are we really going to have a discussion about why a player would be more inclined to give information to a team he's transferring to than a team he's not transferring to?

It's not rocket science.

if hazelton really wants to go to penn state, and carroll won't let him, that's probably going to piss off hazelton quite a bit and he'll give penn state to screw over his spiteful former coach.

He went to high school in New York City (though I think he graduated from one of those prep academies on the East Coast). Rutgers would likely be local for him.

The most important thing you guys are overlooking is Joe Paterno's pride. You won't ever see him accept a transfer from a kid who spurned him during recruitment, especially one so dramatic as Hazelton's.

Never happen.

Yeah, it's a special kind of crap that Pete won't let a kid transfer to a school he wants to go to, nm said kid would still have to sit out a yr before he can play. It's not as if California produces top quality prospect on a yearly basis  , that he could replace this Vidal kid.

Spurrier likes to hold grudges against schools. He usually gets the better end of those grudges on the field too, see Georgia

FWIW: Terrence Cody is coming back for his senior year.

We'll see if Kiffin's plundering is worth it, then.

And I'm pretty shocked Mt. Cody is returning. He'd almost certainly be a first round pick (and probably the first DT taken) had he left this year. He would have been a nice grab for Tennessee if he lasted long enough and if the Titans couldn't bring back Haynesworth.

He'd need to lose a little more weight before he became a definite first rounder, imo.

he's definitely one of the fattest people i've ever seen on a football field

try to find recent pics of former OU sooner lawrence Mo Dampeer with his new team

Yeah, definite was too strong of a word. I think he'd have a good chance to be a first rounder, though.

That's a very large man.

I coincidentally was looking at draft projections last night, and saw Cody going late first round. I think he was the third or fourth DT to go.

Yeah, in most I've seen B.J. Raji and Peria Jerry go ahead of him. I've also seen Sen'Derrick Marks go ahead of him (to the Titans, which I wouldn't mind).

Sen'Derrick Marks is - imo - the best defensive tackle in the 09 draft if he turns pro.
