wouldn't today have been a lot more fun if we were watching the first round of playoffs?

Obviously not, because if we were watching the first round of the playoffs today then the first week of the season (y'know, with games like Appy St v LSU and Youngstown St v OSU) wouldn't have meant nearly as much.

Or something like that. . .

True, today's matchups would've sucked. Who would've wanted to see OU vs. VT, UF vs. CIN, UT vs. Utah and USC vs. PSU?

Not if it cost some meaning to the colossal matchup of Coastal Carolina v Penn State (no offense to your boys) or Georgia Southern v Georgia.

Gotta keep those regular season games meaning something.

One school that was rumored to be after Hoke down. If SDSU goes another way...

Franchione is out. It's Hoke vs Walker.

Is SDSU really that much better of a job than Ball State?

I'd view the schools on a fairly similar level. Or at least close enough that it wouldn't be worth Hoke leaving for it.

Heh, I pretty much said the same thing a page or two ago.

OU vs. VT - Over by halftime

UF vs. CIN - Over by halftime

UT vs. Utah - Might be good, might be over by halftime

USC vs. PSU - Probably be good, but we'll see this matchup in three weeks anyway.

And this is the primary reason why I don't want to see a playoff. There's not a chance in hell the BCS conferences would agree to an 8-team playoff unless their champion gets an auto-bid every year. I have no desire of seeing Cincinnati or Virginia Tech in a playoff instead of Alabama, who was undefeated all year, lost by 11 to the No. 2 team at a neutral site, but gets left out because Cincinnati or a four-loss Va Tech won their conference.

I mean, I'm not in favor of an 8-team playoff anyway, but certainly not this version.

(Top-8 teams in BCS) >>>>>>>>>>(6 BCS conference champions and 2 at-larges).

Upon even further review, we're talking about student athletes, and last week and this upcoming week are finals for most colleges in America.

Shouldn't this be in green? That's the lamest excuse ever from universities. I guess the basketball players that play every weekday don't have finals. Or Division 2 football players.

i'm not sure how bradford, tebow and mccoy are studying for and taking their finals considering that they've been making the rounds of various tv/radio shows and then the awards shows as well.

Division I-AA teams had playoff games yesterday. And I'm pretty sure they'll have more playoff games next Saturday.

Finals truly are a pitifully lame excuse.

Is this before taking location into consideration?

Unfortunately the students learn nothing while in school. Did you guys notice what Tim Tebow was majoring in?

Hey, Erik Ainge was a political science major at UT.

Krenzel was what again? Molecular engineering or something like that.

I've decided to create a playoff and let NCAA Football 2009 sim it for us, while letting the games actually play out, not letting the sim engine in NCAA do it. The seedings are my own ranking system from the first page (more on this coming soon). The first round matchups are as follows, and the home field advantage goes to the higher seeded team with the exception of the FSU, UF game because I am [expletive]:

The 1950s and 60s Power House Division

And, another thing to ask of you guys. If there are some big time contributers for one of the teams mentioned that's not accurately portrayed in the original NCAA rosters, let me know and I will try to fix them. I did some fixes with the Gators and Longhorns. I made McCoy a 99 accuracy guy. I brought Demps up to about an 84 overall back and made Janoris Jenkins a quality cover corner. I did make Mt Cody a force to be reckoned with awhile ago. Also any differences on the depth chart than from what are originally in the game would be helpful as well. Again I could do this with Texas and Florida.

I've already let the Florida at Florida State game go by. I accidently did it at Florida State in the Dynasty schedule where I had the first half of the first round set up. I did this so I could accurate set representations of how often that they run and pass and so on. For instance, originally I think Florida is a 55 pass 45 run team in the game on tendencies. I switched that to 65 run and 35 pass.

Anyways, Florida at Florida State. It was a big game for the Florida secondary. They picked off Seminole quarterback Christian Ponder 4 times, returning one in the first quarter by Joe Haden for a touchdown. That started out the scoring for the Gators. Florida State was able to tie the score 7-7 in the second quarter thanks to a Tim Tebow interception and a four yard touchdown run. The score was tied at 7 at the break, but then Florida ran away with the game. Tebow threw a 30 yard touchdown pass to Carl Moore and then the Gators hit a 50 yard field goal. But Tim Tebow was knocked out of the game on a scramble in the third quarter. Backup John Brantley finished out the game, mainly handing the ball off to Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps. Florida added another field goal before Percy Harvin took a handoff 92 yards to seal the game 27-7 late in the fourth quarter.

Tim Tebow did not have a great game. He went 12 of 21 for 120 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. He ran the ball 7 times for 23 yards. Demps had five runs for just 15 yards, and Harvin had four runs for 102 yards. Florida only ran 43 offensive plays, so I need to bump up the time of game from five minute quarters. Florida State ran just 49. Most games tend to run 60-80 plays per team, so for the next game I will bump it up to 7 minutes and see how much action it is. Really the rushing games for both teams were ineffective, save one big outburst late from Harvin. I may have to play with the sliders later on or take the game off of Heisman to All-American.

Next Game on Tap: Boise State vs Texas Tech. The game has Boise rated as a B-/B/B- team and Tech as a B+/A-/B team.

Because they really are not worse than 16 teams?

Well, first you only have them worse than 11 teams. Second, what computer polls have them so high?* Anyway, Cincinnati would have to be included. Regardless of rank, there won't be a 16-team playoff without an automatic bid from the Big East.

*As I'm searching, Sagarin does have them at No. 13. I'm just surprised by that; but I trust fellow Bloomingtonians.
