Are we not doing enough to get Santo in the hall of fame? Stuff like organized effort... trying to reach every member of the veteran's committee as much as possible to get their vote.

yeah i tried asking this question about a year ago but people seemed apathetic.

We all need to flood the boxes of all of the members. Screw the veterans committee, they should be permanently excluded from the process, bring in a different group of veterans.

i fired off an angry e-mail to the HoF this year saying that i'm not visiting cooperstown again (i went when i was 8) until santo has his rightful place in the hall. i think i included something about them not continuing to select old-timey yankees with a lot of rings too.

5th or 6th greatest all-time despite fighting diabetes back when we didn't know much about it or how to fight it. What he did under those circumstances is truly remarkable. I think we'd be talking about top three or better had diabetes not cut his career short.

Exactly. Aside from his career stats, you'd think the fact that he was playing with a handicap would mean something, at least in a PR sense to the HOF. Obviously, I wouldn't want him in based on the fact that he was disabled because his stats clearly justify his entrance on their own. However, at this point, I'd take him getting in no matter what the circumstances.

Hmmm, maybe that is how pressure could be placed on the appropriate sources. If someone got a special interest group for disabled persons involved.

Does this really have that much of an impact on people's lives?

Boycotting the H.O.F because Santo isn't in?

Wow.

It's not like you're boycotting water or something. How many times does one visit the Hall of Fame in one's lifetime, twice at best?

The Tribune has Santo's reaction: "You know what, I thought it was going to be harder to deal with, but it wasn't," Santo said by phone from his Scottsdale, Ariz. home. "I'm just kind of fed up with it. I figure, hey, it's not in the cards. But I don't want to go through this every two years. It's ridiculous."

grrr

I know it won't happen. In two years if Ron is voted in, I would love for him to tell them - thanks, but no thanks and refuse to be inducted.

Who the **** is Joe Gordon anyway? This is bullHowry.

the 17th greatest 2b of all time (at least in 2001), according to bill james. career warp3 of 94.2 according to BR.

ron santo is the 6th-greatest 3rd baseman with a 112.8 warp3. that's why i'm not going to cooperstown anytime soon.

Yeah, I have the book and know who he was. I should have written that in green.

I just don't understand why the HoF Committee seems to hate Santo. He embodies everything that is good about baseball. He was a fantastic player and he lives and dies with everything the Cubs do. He's the type of person who should be a focal point of the HoF.

Because he was hated as a player by both other players and the media.

I was wondering about this when I saw he was not elected again - can someone elaborate as to why he was hated?

Did Santo do steroids or something?

I could see how Joe Morgan and a couple of other idiots could confuse steriods with insulin...

What if we fake his death? We'll have to lose him on the radio for a year or so, but then once he gets voted in, he shows up to cooperstown and is all like, "BOOYA, MOTHER Beyotches!"
