As for Lane himself, I wasn't his biggest fan (in fact I was a fairly large detractor) during his tenure at SC.

My expectations were probably out of whack given that he followed Chow and had oodles of talent to work with. But comparing him to Sarkisian, who I think is very average, he had a good philosophy and he definitely wasn't afraid to push the envelope. He loves the big play.

At the same time, I wouldn't hold anything he did in Oakland against him too much. He had the team playing hard and somewhat inspired football. The end of his tenure got a little ridiculous with the Al Davis sideshow. Honestly, he came out smelling like a rose.

He'll be able to attract a lot of talent and if the staff is as good as it sounds, it's a good hire. It's not without its risks but turning around a moribund program like Tennessee probably requires a ballsy hire. You're not going to get the program where you expect it to be with a retread, IMO.

Funny thing is, Kiffin is one of the biggest retreads Mike Hamilton was looking at. He and Butch Davis are the only coaches in the running who have been fired from somewhere. Mike Leach and Brian Kelly are both up and comers. Just thought that was kinda funny.

Thanks for the input. It's good to hear opinions on Kiffin from USC, the fanbase who would know the most about him.

if (when) bama loses to florida, redflash can't post until college football season is over. this goes for his alternate account, too.

if all of florida's players die, and they have to forfeit or something, meph can't post until the season ends.

I do too. Too bad I don't think he will be at Texas long enough to become the next head coach.

I truly have no clue to who will win the Heisman, and I won't be upset if Bradford wins it.

i was thinking the same thing about mccoy. i'd love to be able to hate him but i just can't. he's the kind of guy you root for, even if he plays for your rivals

1 important Big 12 game down two to go. How are you feeling going into Stillwater? Despite the feeling that Texas will be dropping 1 spot on Sunday I am hoping for BCS destruction.

how about this? if the game ends in a tie, they can both continue posting as much as they want. however, if either team wins, neither of them can ever post again on nsbb.

The jealousy of the SEC in this thread is sickening. Just because you clowns don't realize that the SEC should be moved into its own special division of the NFL (given the extraordinary SEC SPEED) doesn't mean you need to act embittered.

I'm actually pretty nervous about it. The pokes are better than they usually are and OU never seems to play well there. They can beat us. They have a good team with a good offense and they are coming off a bye week.

On another note, the Cowboys won't sell individual tickets for the OU/OSU game just to keep OU fans out of the stadium for this game. The only people that will be there will be Cowboy season ticket holders. Unfortunately, they have only sold about 45,000 season tickets. They won't be able to sell out one of the biggest games in their school's history against the only school they really care about beating.

That is just the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. Iowa State did that to us 2 years ago and I assume they will do it again next year. I understand trying to sell more season tickets, but its just ridiculous.

They do play great at home, I am just wondering what to expect from OU's defense. They have to be riding very high and very confident.

OSU's offense has lost a little fire power since the Texas game, but they are very balanced, and athletic. Its hard to imagine this game not being a sellout, thats very strange.

just like cubinok said, they've beaten us in stillwater with bad teams, no reason they can't do it now. thankfully, we've played a little better on the road this year than we did last year.

i imagine robinson plays well and dez bryant plays REALLY well. the key is going to be stopping their run game, i think hunter can run all over us if he gets loose.

ESPN.com's Graham Watson, who's essentially been the site's Ball State beat writer this year, speculates today that a bowl game matching up an undefeated Ball State and an undefeated Boise State is within the realm of possibility.

With both Ball State and Boise State a game away from perfect seasons, the desire to match those teams in a bowl game is growing greater.

"This is my perspective and certainly with full communication with all of our schools, but if there's an undefeated Boise nationally ranked and an undefeated Ball State nationally ranked, then I think we should talk about, can that game happen in a way that makes sense?" Mid-American Conference commissioner Rick Chryst said.

Chryst said he doesn't think the game is going to happen in Boise because of the Broncos decided home-field advantage. The Broncos are 63-3 in the past 10 seasons at Broncos Stadium, which is the second-best home record in the country.

But a place the game could end up, if several scenarios happen, is the Motor City Bowl if Ohio State goes to the BCS, or the Independence Bowl if Colorado loses to Nebraska and Auburn loses to Alabama.

Make it happen.

no, please win oklahoma, we do not need a usc team in the championship game after they've played a lousy schedule.

Yes, what we really need is a proven BCS game product in OU. We know they always show up in January.

Interesting, thanks. Any idea who the offensive coordinator is? And what role would Orgeron play? I would assume recruiting coordinator, but would he leave the NFL for that and perhaps a D-line position?

it's my understanding that Orgeron would coach the DLine (no longer separate coaches for DE's and DT's) and would serve as recruiting coordinator. He's already reportedly been doing research on current commits, current players, and the state of Tennessee as a whole. He would be BIG in Memphis.

The latest on Trooper Taylor is that he's been contacted for an offensive staff position- presumably OC and most likely RB's. That would make the Offensive staff Trooper Taylor (who will share playcalling with Kiffin, undoubtedly), David Reaves (QB's), Latrell Scott (WR's... and maybe TE's) and an unnamed OL coach. Defensively (and this is all just conjecture at this point), I'm hearing/guessing Kiffin as DC and LB coach, Orgeron at DLine (and recruiting coordinator), and an unnamed DB's coach, though I have heard Joe Whitt Jr, who is another outstanding recruiter. That leaves room for a Special Teams coach on the staff, which Fulmer would never do. I have heard no names or even speculation that this might happen, but if it were to, Shane Beamer would be the unanimous choice amongst UT fans.

We will know something by Tuesday.

Very interesting. I like the looks of most of that staff. Any idea why Orgeron would leave an NFL gig (albeit small) to take a position coach job at the collegiate level? Either way, that staff can most definitely recruit very well and that's incredibly important at Tennessee.

Is it Tuesday that we should know whether UT offered and Kiffin accepted or do you think we'll know earlier and he'll assemble his staff quickly?

Thanks for the info.

I think we'll know about Kiffin by Monday (we really already know, but the University will not confirm or release any info until Phil Fulmer's placard is offically off the office door.) Due to recruiting, we will know at least 3 others by mid-week. He WILL keep up to two current coaches, both on offense. According to Brent Hubbs, Trooper Taylor has not been contacted, but I don't believe him. Again, personal friends of Trooper's (who have other connections in the Athletic Department, and who have nailed other news) have stated that Trooper has been contacted and offered a position and that he'd love to come back. I'd guess that a line coach (as well as a new strength and conditioning "coach") would be a very quick hire.

We likely won't know about a Defensive Coordinator for several weeks. Monte will not be asked to recruit if he's on the staff, so there is no rush there. Orgeron will be a factor in the LSU Defensive Coordinator search, so that will remain up in the air. IF Monte is a no, and IF Orgeron is a no, then I'm not sure who'd be on the list, but I would expect Kevin Steele's name to be circulated heavily.

There is no way USC jumps ahead of Texas or OU. One of them will remain ahead. Even if OU wins and Tech loses, and Texas loses to Mizzou, OU will still be ahead of USC.

USC has to have Florida lose to FSU, then have Florida beat Bama and Mizzou win the Big 12. Even in that case Bama might still be ahead of USC. They have way to much ground to make up and playing ND will do nothing to help that cause. I think a Texas/OU rematch is more likely than any scenario with USC in the championship game.

I'd like to see Trooper back, it's no coincidence that each unit he coached improved as soon as he took over. I do worry about his playcalling ability, though, since he's never done it.

Surely with those three all possibilities we'll be able to land one of them. I'm not sure how I feel about Orgeron as a defensive coordinator, though. His absolutely horrid stint at Ole Miss worries the heck out of me.

I don't know that I'd worry about Trooper calling plays. I'd bet that many- if not all of the plays- will be called by Kiffin.

I guess Iowa added Ball State to the schedule in 2010.

Today kinda stinks. I remember the 90's when the Friday after Thanksgiving was awesome with Texas/A&M and Nebraska/Colorado. At least one of them was usually a good or important game.

let's say Texas, TT and Oklahoma all win this week. If the BCS standing hold firm, that would put Texas in the Big 12 title game via the BCS tiebreaker. Now, if Texas were to lose to Missouri, what are the chances that Oklahoma makes the NC game?

Odds are OU jumps Texas if they all win this week. If they all win this week, it's either going to be Texas or OU in the title game. Either OU will beat Mizzou and coast in to the title game, or Mizzou beats them and Texas sneaks in. What could throw a wrench into things is if OSU beats OU and Tech wins the South. Public perception is really against Texas Tech, but what if they find themselves in the B12 title game and win? The only team you could put in front of them would be Texas, a team they beat for the South and beat head-to-head. I guess USC is a factor at that point too, although I wonder if they'd get the nod without winning their conference.

That sounds like an interesting matchup. Any way Ball State will be somewhat as good as they are this year.
