Someone watched the VH1 Top 100 Rock songs. :D

After watching that, I felt quite ill. Their top 100 was missing about 80 songs that are in my top 100. That's all.

I sure did. Their list was awful, but I still couldn't stop watching.

Yeah, I was the same way. There were several moments that I just had to chuckle at the choices, but Twisted Sister at #17 was the clincher.

Welcome to the Jungle as number 1? I mean it's a good song, but all time best? No.

How did you transition from talking about a great movie, Real Genius, to the real men of genius commercials?

It's such a fine line.

Did anyone catch the Score this morning? Supposedly they said that the reason the Peavy Talks are not going to happen is because Ricketts doesn't want to take on Peavy's salary. I mean i know its the score and those guys are idiots (They reported that Kobe was a Bull), but i can really believe that this is true. The thing is after giving it a lot of though, you can't really be mad at Ricketts, i mean the cubs do have a large payroll as is and with money he's investing to buy the cubs you can't expect him to increase payroll without developing a new way to bring in revenue to the team. I think the cubs have really hurt themselves with all the bad contract they have. Whether its the Soriano, Fukudome, Marquis, Bradley, etc i feel they have overpaid but not as bad as the yankees.

I don't think Bradley was overpaid

" After San Diego Padres president Sandy Alderson announced on Thursday that Jake Peavy is expected to be with the team in Spring Training, most observers believe a possible deal between the Cubs and Padres is finished. According to league sources, the Cubs and Padres will try to revisit a Peavy deal sometime during Spring Training when Cubs officials have a new owner (most likely the Ricketts family of Omaha, Nebraska) to ask for extra payroll money for 2009. The Cubs' payroll is locked in right now at $140 million, which includes all players on the 40-man roster. In order to take on a contract like Peavy's, Cubs brass must have a long protracted conversation with the new owner in order to find out if he is willing to take on an additional $63 million, which doesn't include Peavy's $22 million option for 2013.

The Cubs are still looking for a right-handed hitting infielder/1B-3B backup. Names that have come up for the Cubs are Kevin Millar and Rich Aurilia. The team had shown early interest in Nomar Garciaparra, but were told that he was looking for more of a full-time position. The team also inquired about the availability of former White Sox SS Juan Uribe before he signed a deal with the San Francisco Giants. "

Per Bruce Levine's Blog.

Looks like if a Peavy Deal ever gets done it would have to be done until the sale is officially finalized. Its interested to note the kevin millar consideration. I would love the cubs to sign him over any other backup 1b, even over hoff. The reason isn't his production, although he's a solid backup, its his club house presence. He was well liked in boston and baltimore, to me, someone like him would be able to replace Mark Derosa's presence.

NOMAH.... I would still love to have him back in a backup role. Even if he sucked I would still like him.

I would love Kevin Millar. People would play up the "OMG it was his attitude in Boston that got the Red Sox over the hump and won them a championship", but I have to feel like there is some value there.

That said, his numbers were awful last year.

Thats great News that we where at least in on Nomar , as each day passes maybe he decides he wants to play for a ring , instead of a starting job that he won't stay healthy for. Getting him would really help lessen the sting of trading Dero.

Isn't he essentially only a backup 1B at this point? I don't see the point in Millar. His attitude wasn't nearly as important as his team's ridiculous production.

Yeah, he is pretty much a backup 1B. Knowing how you think (and a lot of people here), its hard to believe that someone's attitude or clubhouse presence had a difference in the play of a team. But if it was possible, if any team could use a boost like the Red Sox allegedly benefited from, its probably the Cubs with their history and recent postseason success.

If we want a cheerleader we can call Ribbee up from the minors, Millar would be a waste of time.

Hoff would probably put up better numbers, but the way the Cubs think, they'd rather get someone less talented but more proven for their bench. At least Millar can come up and hit some dingers, although I wouldn't go as far as to say he could provide power off the bench, given his anemic SLG last year.

ATP I don't see too many CONTENDERS that need a starter at SS and/or 3rd base. And the teams that possibly do have a spot open are teams not likely to compete any time soon. So Nomar would have to decide if starting for a crappy team is better then being a utility player on a contender.

So yes, I would love to bring NOMAH back as a utility player.

-----------------------

As for Kevin Millah, the only value he would have would be as a comic. Dempster/Millah on the same team, the Cubs would definately not be an uptight team. With that said, Millah has sucked recent, and the only way I want the Cubs to sign him would be on a minor league contract with an invite.

A) We don't have a Yankees.

B) Boston won because as often as they were good, it was bound to happen.

C) If there's a team in the NL that needs some sort of mental boost, it's much more likely to be the Mets than the Cubs. That team has blown divisions two years in a row in glorious fashion.

D) If Millar was any good, I'd be perfectly fine adding him in hopes that there was some sort of intangible mental benefit on the side. However, he's not any good, and he plays a position (RH backup 1B) that the Cubs really have no need for.

Millar isn't even a lefty.

Boston also faced a number of challenging mental situations during those playoffs that could have ate them up and spit them out including playing the Yankees who had a mental edge on them, facing a 3-0 deficit, their ace playing on one ankle. They had to stay loose somehow.

There's no point in arguing it though because its impossible to quantify any sort of mental/chemistry influence in baseball. I don't even think I believe there is much effect. I just brought up Millar and his reputation for chemistry because someone was going to.

And yes the Red Sox were very very good in 2004. But so were the Cubs last year.
