Looks like now that the Cubs saved Wuertz's $1.2MM they can finally start discussions with the Fathers for Peavy again. ;)

Despite new ownership, Pads still likely to deal ace

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9176710/Despite-new-ownership,-Pads-still-likely-to-deal-ace

The Padres' sale to a group led by Jeff Moorad does not change the team's position on trading right-hander Jake Peavy, according to a source with knowledge of the club's thinking.

The odds are the same," the source said.

The Padres maintain that they only will trade Peavy if the deal makes baseball sense. However, their season ticket sales have dropped from about 15,000 in 2008 to "well below" 10,000, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The increasing financial pressure might compel the Padres to move Peavy, particularly if they could land a package from the Cubs headed by minor-league third baseman Josh Vitters, a top hitting prospect.

The teams have had no recent conversations; the Cubs are in the middle of their own ownership transition, and remain unsure whether their prospective new owners, the Ricketts family, will be willing to add payroll.

Peavy, 27, is owed $59 million over the next four seasons, and his contract includes a $22 million club option or $4 million buyout for 2013. He could require the Cubs to exercise his option in exchange for waiving his no-trade clause.

We'll get him if the Padres are desperate enough, unless the Braves step back in because of said desperation.

The Braves already spent like 30m plus on starting pitching this offseason. There's no way they add another big pitchers contract, with Hudson, Vazquez, Lowe and Kawakami making big money next year. So the Braves are no longer a option for Peavy, and he probably doesn't wanna go there anyways.

Has anyone ever said "hey, cool pic"?

Almost certainly not.

But I still think that anyone who is "creeped out" by anime has some sort of underlying issue. That's just weird.

To be fair, your avatar is kind of creepy too...

Japan in general creeps me out.

I have seen more than enough.

And if being creeped out by an entire country isn't a sign of some sort of psychological issue/neurosis, I don't know what is.

OK, this is understandable. :-))

Ski does hate cheerleaders, after all . . .

Ski's biggest dichotomy.

For the record, don't google image "anime cheerleaders" with the search filter off. seriously. i learned from my mistakes the hard way.

See, that's disturbing, but no more than a John Waters film.

I'm not quoting this to add anything of value, just to try and sway the topic from being locked because it turned into an anime discussion.

Obviously the deal still has legs. Granted, they might be crippled, but still. I don't think this thing will ever be 100% dead. In the end they'll say "Jake Peavy will be our starting pitcher on opening day... but we'll still be open to trading him" and then a report will come out saying "The Cubs remain interested in Jake Peavy" and thus we have the circle of life. Or despair. Or misery. One of the three.

Keeping up the anime discussion would be a good way to get this thread locked.

It's a trick to make this fall short of the Roberts thread.

Yeah, my bad. The used panty vending machines and tentacle rape cartoon porn are perfectly normal.
