ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Mark Grace is likely to be on the short list of candidates to replace Bob Brenly in the Cubs' TV booth if Brenly is hired as manager of the Brewers.

But Grace, an analyst for Arizona currently working the World Series in his part-time role for Fox, might be a little too candid for his own good, having said the Cubs "laid down" in their National League Division Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While calling a Cubs-Brewers game at Miller Park on the final weekend of the regular season, Grace said there was no way the Cubs shouldn't go to the World Series. Thursday, however, he said he wasn't shocked after watching the Cubs fall apart.

"Not the way they [messed] it up," he said. "Honestly, that's twice now that this same group of players has gone out and played tight. C'mon. Are you kidding me? They just went out and played tight.

It would be so odd to have Brenly managing the Brewers

Erin Andrews should replace Brenly if he leaves.

+1 :D) :D) :D)

It would be the first time in history that the camera focused only on the announcers as they watch the game.

These comments by Grace are no more candid than Brenly's searing in-game review of Soriano's defensive prowress.

I don't want Grace to replace Brenly, period. But, really, to say that those comments would make him an odd or bat choice is silly. He's opining on baseball and being very honest -- with a sentiment many on here would agree with. Just to repeat, though I don't want Grace in our booth... :)

So they don't want him because he speaks the truth? Are we trying to recreate the Hawk/DJ creation?

Supposedly it is down to 3 candidates, but can anyone really see Willie Randolph being offered the job with how he has managed the last two seasons? The Brewers would be getting another Ned Yost.

I remember one time during the playoffs when Kasper was working for Comcast and interviewed Sutcliffe, and right away I noticed how good they were together, and what great chemistry there was. They would be a good combo in the booth, and definitely the best option.

Sutcliffe is just about my least favorite baseball TV personality.

I don't care what anybody says...I'd love Grace in the booth.

I would too.

Same here. He may not be the most insightful color commentator, but I would enjoy listening to his stories. With that being said, I would still very much prefer that Brenly stays!

If Bob does leave for the Brewers job, I demand Joe Carter be Brenly's replacement in the booth.

You must really hate the English language to suggest this; even jokingly.

I love Joe, nicest guy I've met, but I was joking really bad in this case. I would rather listen to Hawk/DJ when the White Sox are losing badly in a game over Joe Carter.

The perception has been that Bob Brenly is the frontrunner to become the Brewers' manager. But a person familiar with the process said Brenly's interview did not go that well and that former A's manager Ken Macha is now considered the leading candidate. Willie Randolph is the third person currently being considered for the job. He is well liked by Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin and his interview apparently went well. In addition - surprisingly - he has received strong endorsements from Mets officials. Of course, if Randolph is hired by the Brewers some of the $2.25 million the Mets still owe him for 2009 would be removed, which could be a good reason for Met officials to be so positive about Randolph.

Yeah, mine too. He is, by far, my all-time least favorite Cubs star. I started to dislike him long before he left the Cubs. He always seemed so needy of affirmation. I always really liked Sutcliffe.

As such, that certainly colors my views of their broadcasting abilities. So, Grace probably isn't as bad as I think he is and Sutcliffe probably isn't as good as he think he is.
