Apparently Gordon is sitting out the first practice awaiting a deal before he has to sign the 1 year RFA deal of 6mil I think

I really hope we don't give in and sign him to an extension.

We won't. We already signed can't-shoot Kirk Hinrich to a 13mil per deal to play shooting guard alongside Rose.

I hate this organization. We're going to dump Ben Gordon like bad rubbish but they can't get enough of Kirk Hinrich.

How many teams have ever been successful with their primary scorer being an undersized two guard who is a one dimensional player?

Well, I suppose this doesn't have anything to do with the current situation, but he wouldn't have to be our primary scorer if we didn't insist on taking defense-first gangly tall guys with lottery picks two years in a row.

Who should the pick have been the second year?

Good, I really hope we lock up Gordon long-term. Sure he's a small two-guard, but he's shown he can average 20 points per game with no true other scoring threat on the team. I guess Deng is an average threat, but he doesn't really present you much of a legit #1 guy.

With Rose running the show, just imagine how many easy looks Gordon would get as Rose draws double teams on drives to the hoop. Are you serious? A Rose and Gordon backcourt would flourish IMO. I've said it since the Rose pick, I really hope Hinrich's the odd guy out. It doesn't look like that's going to be the case for at least this year, but I still hope Paxson eventually comes to his senses.

I also hope Hinrich is the odd man out. To my eyes, he's regressed pretty badly. At the very least, he could use a change of scenery so it could be a win-win situation for both parties.

Gordon is garbage. There is more to basketball than ppg.

I was reading on RealGM that he had the 3rd lowest defensive win shares in the league.

But then again, since all he can do is score, he'll be our 6th man, which means he comes in when we need a scoring boost.

I figured it was hard to trade Hinrich away this past offseason with his contract. I'm not a big fan of Gordon, don't commit to him too, especially when you have other options around.

Man, Pac-10 bias or not, I really wanted Brandon Roy instead of Tyrus Thomas. Imagine Rose and Roy.

Ehh, the past is the past. Pretty much everyone wanted someone besides TT in 2006.

The thing I've been comforting myself with is the fact that if we did one thing differently, we wouldn't have Derrick Rose. If we have Roy, we almost certainly don't have Rose.

Same thing if we had kept Aldridge.

I like him a lot in that 6th man role. I refuse to support paying him anything more than 6th man money though. Like you mentioned, there is the pathetic defense which isn't from lack of effort. He just physically is outmatched. Then factor in the inconsistency on offense and you have some misleading offensive stats. He'll lose you more games from individually sucking than he'll win you by individually killing it.

True enough. Rose better be as good as I think he can be.

So you would give your 6th man who can only score 10-12 mil per year? I sure as heck wouldn't. Let him walk.

A sign and trade would be nice.

You forgot to mention Gordons terrible ball handling. Say goodbye to Gordon please

Good.

October 1, 2008 – The Chicago Bulls today announced that guard Ben Gordon agreed to accept the one-year qualifying offer that had been tendered to him by the team.

Gordon will thus be under contract with the Bulls until the end of the 2008.09 season, at which time he will become an unrestricted free-agent.

The 6-3, 200-pound Gordon has appeared in 316 games, including 128 starting assignments, in four seasons with the Bulls. During that time, he has averaged 18.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 2.9 apg, while shooting .432 from the field and .416 from three-point range.

Last season in 72 games, he led the team in scoring for the third consecutive season, posting 18.6 ppg and shot a career-high .908 percent (third in NBA) from the free throw line. Gordon was selected by the Bulls in the first round (third overall) in the 2004 NBA Draft.

When I saw that he had either the one year QO or a 59 million dollar extension, I was praying as hard as I could that he would take the QO. That contract would be a major hinderance to this organization.

Posted
so we just gonna let him walk after this season? hopefully we'll be able to deal him at some point this season...

Because he signed the QO that might not be possible.

Gordon was never taking the extension offer. He wants more money than that, and for some reason thinks he can get it.

FWIW, I don't want to lock him up now. I'm saying we should have paid him Kirk's money and dumped him. Of course, Kirk didn't suck when he signed his deal. So I dunno.

I don't know, Gordon's a frustrating player for me. He can score, but not when he starts. He can't defend. He doesn't handle the ball particularly well from what I've seen.

He's a jump shooter, and it seems to me he's a streaky one at that.

I'm not real high on Gordon or Hinrich. Both of these guys leave something to be desired. But I admit, I'm not a real basketball expert.

Neither am I. It just appears that both of them pretty much have one good skill and suck at everything else. The difference is that Hinrich's 'skill' is being a point guard and we have a better one now. And Kirk kind of blew last year at that one skill.

How is Hinrich's "one good skill" "being a point guard?"

Being a point guard isn't a skill.

Distributing, passing, I don't know. Like I said, I know crap about hoops. So feel free to dismiss whatever I say.

With the first preseason game tonight, and the offseason over, I figured this was an appropriate time to start this thread. Bulls/Mavs tonight at the UC on CSN.

Neil Funk will be the PBP, Stacey King the color guy.

Derrek Rose's first game in the Bulls uniform, and he's been getting rave reviews for his skills and maturity and might even land a starting spot on opening night. Also, Tyrus Thomas has put on 10-15 lbs of muscle since last season and is now around 6'9'' 233, and is said to have matured quite a bit over the offseason. Apparently, it started while watching Glen Davis win a title last year with Boston and talking to him about how everyone on the team put aside everything to sacrifice and win a title, and decided to rededicate himself.

It may be preseason fluff, but I am starting to get optimistic that the Bulls will be at least decent this year.
