This was the year they had to do it. You think we're going to get this kind of production next year out of DeRosa, Fontenot, Dempster, center field? Lee is on the decline. Soriano can hit 150 HRs in the regular season and then [expletive] the bed in the playoffs next year for all we know. Theriot sucks.

[expletive] Cubs.

[expletive] off Torre.

My thoughts

1) Alfonso Soriano as our leadoff hitter must be over and done with. We know you like leading off Fonzie but you're shooting yourself and the team in the foot.

Put him wherever down the order makes the best sense for the team next year.

2) Gotta change the outfield. No, the answer isn't to put Fontenot at 2nd and move DeRosa to RF. I think you have to get an impact player. And Soriano moving to RF has to be on the table.

Since there isn't much hope of Fukudome not being on the team next year, he needs to be in the CF competition. And you have to find the guts to make him one of the highest paid 4th outfielders in baseball if things go that way.

You don't need to blow the team up persay, but you have to acknowledge that we've got our butts kicked twice in a row now. Some things have to change.

I hope Soriano and Lee spend the entire '09 season on the DL.

I hate Soriano so ---SOAPDROPPING--- much.

Good call. Lee was obviously the villain in this series.

And there is minimal blame to be put on Hendry. He put together a near 100 win team that didn't show up for the playoffs. That's not on him. They played tight and coughed it up.

He made decisions that made them heavily right-handed, making them vulnerable to a team with lots of good right-handed pitching.

I can't wait to read DeRosa's blog to see how sad he is the Cubs didn't do well again this year. Next year, if he is with the Cubs, he needs to not talk so much and worry about playing. There comes a point when we don't care to hear excuses. The last two games he was terrible. Tonight there is no excuse for not bringing in the runner on third with one out, and then watching pitch after pitch go straight across the plate, and then swinging at the ball in the dirt.

[expletive], at least he got us off to the start we needed in the playoffs with the HR. Obviously the boot on the ground ball was equally big, but come on.

We need no less than 4 position spots revamped. SS, CF, RF and 1B. That's not quite blowing the team up, but it's also more than a minor tweak. With the uncertainties surrounding the sale of the Cubs, who the owner will be, and our increasing payroll, I doubt all those positions are going to be improved, if any.

The really crummy thing about all this is now all offseason NSBB will convince themselves that this is just another 3 game statistical anamoly, standard deviation, what have you, and that things like human emotion and pressure are ludicrous intangibles that should be laughed off by the quasi-elite sabrheads.

No, Lee was the villain in the regular season. A first baseman with declining hitting skills, no power, and a double play machine. And next year he'll be a year older. And likely still our three-hole hitter.

Pie should have started in left field. Soriano is a piece of garbage.

Bull [expletive]. They scored the most runs in the league vs. RHP and had the second best OPS vs. RHP over 161 games.

Here's some things I'd like to see happening:

* Soriano will not under any circumstances stay in the leadoff spot. More so, I hope he takes ground balls from here until March and moved back to 2B.

* DeRosa's career year was just that. He should be relegated to a super-sub role.

* We need a new shortstop (Furcal would solve two huge problems) and two corner outfilders with post-season experience and leadership qualities (can't believe the man that came back to kill us could be had year after year after year - Manny Ramirez).

* Marquis and Howry should be left for dead in LA.

Thoughts?

I'd honestly like to see them contracted. I really, really would. It's not just the playoff loss talking.

+1

Think about it. Maybe the whole 100 years thing has been way too much pressure that this team will never live down.

Theres only two ways around that, and winning it all hasnt happened.

Lee stepped up. He is NOT who I was talking about.

Lee looked and performed like he was the only one who cared. He might not have had a great season by his or our standards but I can't blame his desire.

Soriano on the other hand needs to get traded to the Mariners.

Yup. I was pissed at Lee too this series but tonight he knew what was at stake and he stepped up. He was watching the entire game and not sitting on the bench with his head down and his legs folded like someone else.

Well, the good news is next year we'll probably be right back here taking another kick at the football while Lucy smiles.

It's not just about us, it's about the other teams as well.

Dodgers pitchers vs. RHB

.239 .301 .361

Dodgers pitchers vs. LHB

.268 .334 .396

We played right into their strength.

If we had played the Phillies, it would have been the same thing:

.252 .317 .399 vs. .270 .346 .425

Lee? You mean the guy who batted .545 in the series? Yeah let's dump him. Good call. :-k

Yea, the answer is DEFINITELY moving DeRosa to the bench and replacing him with Soriano.

You really should have Hendry's job, you're an effing genius.

This is the first time I think I've actually believed that anti clutch exists.

And that hurts.

You can not believe in clutch, but there is little doubt anti-clutch exists, nor should there be.

People often try to do too much, or they fear the spotlight.

The people others call clutch are those who maintain an even keel.

Clutch is a myth, but anti-clutch is very, very real. We just witnessed it.

Okay. So constructing a team that's good against "Good" RHP is more important than constructing a roughly 100 win team that was the best team in the league, best offense in the league, best against RHP and best against LHP.

That makes sense.

Barring upgrading from Theriot, next years lineup should be

1. Ryan Theriot

2. Derrek Lee

3. Aramis Ramirez

4. Free Agent who is playing RF or LF

5. Geovany Soto

6. Alfonso Soriano

7. Mark DeRosa

8. Whoever is playing CF

9. Pitcher

All three playoff teams in the NL were significantly better pitching to RHB.

Brewers had the smallest split:

.255 .318 .396

.257 .331 .420

Last year's Diamondbacks were:

.255 .318 .396

.271 .353 .450

False choice. You can construct a team that is balanced with good hitters from both sides of the plate *and* build a team that is great in the regular season. It does not have to be an either/or.

I propose we launch Theriot into the sun.

Worst hitter in lineup getting most at-bats. I'm in!
