Lets say the games need to be replayed but the Cubs have clinched HFA....

Mon - Game 1 - Lilly

Mon -Game 2 - Marquis

Tues - Marshall

Cubs start the playoffs

Game 1 - Zambrano

Game 2 - Dempster

Day off

Game 3 - Harden

Game 4 - Lilly

So it wouldn't KILL our rotation to have to play those games. Lilly is the only starter effected, and he would be pitching on 5 days rest in Game 4.

I'd imagine it would be ok to have our lineup be:

Fukudome, RF

Fontenot, 2B

Hoffpauir, 1B

DeRosa, 3B

Johnson, LF

Blanco, C

Pie, CF

Cedeno, SS

It's still annoying though. They could tie things up a lot quicker if they were playing those 3 games this weekend.

If the Cubs have clinched HFA, why would they throw any of their starters on the playoff roster?

It also seems that the Astros are reluctant to move the games elsewhere.

Here is a quote from McLain.

"We're trying to be careful and mindful of our fans safety," McLane said. "People in the greater Houston area and Harris County have been encouraged to stay home. School has been canceled and we just want to do the right thing. We don't have a date now. We just wanted to let the fans know as soon as possible."

McLane said the Astros are hopeful of rescheduling home games sometime later in the season.

The way this is being handled is so stupid, especially since the solution is so easy:

Three games in Kansas City... Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Houston gets the gate.

MLB--which has deep enough pockets to do this--pays Houston the revenue they lost because of the venue change.

Doesn't McLane know he's screwing with his team by trying to cram the series in like this?

I was assuming the Cubs would be pressured to maintain a shred of integrity for those games. I guess Randy Wells could pitch instead of Lilly and someone else instead of Marshall.

Not a lot of precident for it I guess. Has their ever been a team thats already locked up their playoff spot forced to play a makeup game again a team trying to clinch a playoff spot?

Kansas City would have a rain out too.

Atlanta makes the most sense if the Astros are able to fly out.

If Milwaukee wins this weekend this could end up being the worst possible outcome for us.

Let's just hope Philadelphia sweeps. :beg: :beg: :beg:

Uhh...when? How can this idiot hold our season hostage?

He's welcome to fly to Iowa and we'll have "the Cubs" play them at any time.

It's why it's genius of the Stros to push these games back as long as possible. Any time after the Cubs clinch would be just gravy for Drayton.

Not only that, but they only seem to be planning FOR Ike, not its after-effects.

Who's to say that Houston (MMP) will have power after it blows through? The area won't be flooded? Lots of fans won't be stuck having to fix their homes? Or the airports will be in good enough condition for the Cubs to fly into?

Atlanta would work for me, as I could easily make the trip there. I would like to know soon, so I can start driving that direction.

Yeah there's no way any pitcher of importance gets waste. Jake Fox and Sam Fuld might even be allowed to see the big leagues again. Piniella would treat it like the HOF game.

This happens all the time: people on a message board with common sense, then the people in charge F everything up.

Nice I love when teams have 3 freaking off days in a row.

I think he's waited because he wants to see what Ike does. If it comes in at Galveston, I doubt they would play at all, even on Sunday or Monday. If it keeps tracking eastward and comes in around Orange, TX or even Cameron Parish, Louisiana then Houston probably could play in Houston on Sunday and Monday.

By not moving the games, McLain leaves open those options. I'm not agreeing with his decision, but I think that's where it's coming from.

They just want to play in that stadium at all costs because they think they will make the playoffs and they think it will give them a big advantage over the Cubs.

Well even though it's against everything I read online ... it looks like Hotwire.com is going to refund my money for the hotel room I have reserved. Hopefully everything goes through.

What are they gonna do if Houston is in ruins, without power? It's just silly to do this.

I've not read through the rest of the thread, but...

I don't think it will be. Houston proper is too far inland. There will be some wind damage, but probably not to MMP or most major structures.

Of course I'm not expert on hurricanes, I could be completely wrong. That is just what I've been reading.

My brother just called me--he lives outside of Baton Rouge and just got his power on yesterday after about a week and a half. I believe that Houston isn't much, if any further inland than Baton Rouge is.

Houston is also VERY prone to flooding. My in-laws live there and always had to deal with floods with bayous overflowing throughout the "inner loop".

I certainly understand the Stros wanting to play at home now that they've played themselves back into the race, but I think postponing and not playing at a neutral site could really cost the teams as there's a chance they won't be able to play Sunday. They should at least move the Friday game up to get one in and have the opportunity to play the DH on Monday if needed.

It's bad enough the baseball gods have been against us in my lifetime, but now Mother Nature as well as the ex-Brewers owner commisioner?

They *HAVE* to get a couple of these games in somewhere Sunday/Monday, otherwise it's really going to screw things up.

A few years ago I think the Mets or Giants almost had this happen to them (just one game though, I think against STL) but my memory fails me...
