There was supposed to be word on this a couple of hours ago. This "no news yet" makes me think that MLB is figuring out the "neutral site" scenario, making the necessary phone calls to other ballparks, travel plans, and television crew changes. If they were just going to play on Sunday and Monday in Houston, wouldn't they have just announced this already?

I hope.

I'm thinking back to that St. Louis article about Houston balking at the proximity of St. Louis to Chicago. If the games were to be moved, I guess that would mean KC or Atlanta? Those are pretty even. It's a stupid reason, especially if you're trying to increase revenue.

There is now a hurricane warning for Houston.

Heavy rain, strong damaging winds, rising water levels, and battering waves will increase along the Texas Coast Friday, with the worse conditions expected Friday night into early Saturday. The most severe conditions will impact areas just to the north of where the center makes landfall; the right front quadrant of Ike's circulation.

After Ike makes landfall early Saturday, life threatening flooding rains and potentially damaging winds will spread inland across Texas, perhaps as far north as northern Texas into Sunday.

The Cubs had suggested the Astros fly to St. Louis to play the series there, but that was rejected, possibly because it would give the Cubs the advantage of not having to fly anywhere.

Oh no, they wouldn't have to fly anywhere! Ridiculous.

What if they just take off, circle around Missouri for a while, then land?

If Bud Selig doesn't put his foot down on this and move the series, he will forever cement himself, historically, in place as worst Commissioner of MLB.

YOU "run" the MLB, Bud, NOT the Houston Astros and their management!!

Well technically, Jerry Reinsdorf runs the MLB.

Plus the All-Star Game fiasco and subsequent "now it counts" have already cemented Selig as the worst.

How about the disadvantage of having to be in St. Louis for 6 straight days?

Yeah, that's rough.

I've been in St. Louis for 6 years!

Argh.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that the Trib has nothing new up about what might happen this weekend. Are we awake, Mr. Sullivan?

Atlanta is really the only place that makes much sense right now. KC, Cincy, and St. Louis are all in line for rain through the weekend. Atlanta will be hot, but the forecast is pretty clear and hot through through Sunday.

I hear Chicago is nice this time of year...

ST. LOUIS -- The Cubs' weekend games in Houston against the Astros are expected to be postponed, and the Cubs will head back to Chicago after Thursday's game against St. Louis to avoid Hurricane Ike, which is churning in the Gulf of Mexico and heading in the direction of Texas.

The Cubs and Astros are scheduled to open a three-game series Friday at Minute Maid Park. There was talk about having the Cubs and Astros play a day game Friday instead of a night game, but all plans are on hold.

The Cubs expected to make an official announcement prior to Thursday's game against the Cardinals. The Astros will make an announcement soon, an MLB official said.

lol @ MLB

Except for the fact it's supposed to rain here as well....

Well, postponing the games is better than having the team fly to Houston. But I can't believe they would tack them on to the end of the season rather than try to play them at a neutral site.

This has to be Houston's doing.

Greed really is the root of all evil.
