Orton has to be able to get more accurate on the deep ball. I know it was windy, but if you can't throw deep, the backs will play right on our receivers, and we will soon have no passing game.

Yeah, the run, run and short dump pass offense isn't going to cut it.

And there are few things more frustrating that not being able to hit the receiver who has beaten his man. Ever.

But the play calling is more frustrating, which is saying something.

Still, if Greg Olson hangs on to the football and McKie doesn't decide to go penalty happy, it's a win.

We handed this one back today unfortunately.

I did go to the game. I took some pictures which I'll post once I've had a chance to upload (will probably be several days; I have a busy week at work this week and I'm focusing more on the Cubs' impending clinching right now).

I haven't read this whole thread, so I might be repeating other things that have been said already...

Our WR's are awful. With Hester out, we don't have a deep threat. None of our receivers could beat any of their corners all day, with the exception of the one slightly overthrown pass (to Lloyd was it?). Other than that, anytime Kyle threw deep, the corner was leading the WR. In fact, the one completed long pass to Lloyd was only because the ball was underthrown and it was easier to come back to the ball for Lloyd since he'd already been beaten by the corner.

Olsen's first fumble was completely unacceptable. The second one hurt a lot more, but it was a really good punch out by Harris.

WTF Turner? You run the ball 9 yards on the first Forte carry on that last drive, and then throw for 2 downs, including that pass to the flat that hadn't worked all freaking day long? Then when you do run, you use McKie? It wasn't like it was 4th and inches...it was 4th and a full yard, maybe yard and a half. Awful playcalling there.

If Hester is out any length of time, that really hurts the WR core. Just the threat of Hester helps the other guys out there. What happened with Hester anyway? He got a little shove and he has bruised ribs? It looked like nothing.

EDIT: I read now in David Haugh's article that 3rd and 1 was an Orton audible, and that it was called as a run. I guess Orton is the culprit there, not Turner. (Turner can still take the heat for the McKie run though.)

Rashied Davis. Should never have gotten paid. Too many mistakes out there.

Ron Turner. What else is new with this guy? His playcalling is the worst in the league. If I ever see those damn WR screens again I will break my TV.

Olsen. 2 fumbles, one costly one.

Orton. Can't throw a 15 yard plus throw to save his life.

this will always be the knock on Orton. he just isnt accurate on a ball longer then 15 yrds 80% of the time. Its why I always pined for Grossman so much, hoping his mental lapses would be something he could work through.

They had this game. The defense was awesome but got stuck with a short field all the time. Bears controlled the first half and offense looked decent then. Turner then decided to shut it down in the fourth quarter and play close to his vest. The 4th and 1 call was a freakin joke. At least lose the game with the ball in forte's hands. Forte had some nice runs to get a first down but stupid penalties on the line, i swear it must just be the presence of Fred Miller.

Positives: LLoyd, Forte, Orton in the first half, Defense.

At least give it to Forte so he has a shot of bouncing it to the outside when the Panthers crash the middle.

That play call was horrible. I think I heard someone say they thought the play call was fine, too. Orton maybe?

No it wasn't. IT WASN'T.

It's the same crap every year with Turner. Since he's been here the play calling on offense has been questionable. He sucks.

Olsen, you're cut. Turner, you too.

I would have benched Olsen for the rest of the game after the second fumble, but Lovie ran him right out there on the next drive. Then he got ran over while trying to block.

One took points off the board, as the Bears were near FG range. One put points on the board the other way. Both were costly.

Sadly, if Orton's accuracy on deep balls hasn't improved by now, it's highly unlikely that it ever will.

Seconded that's one of the big things Grossman has on Orton, Orton' not merely bad on the deep ball he's flat out terrible.

As a side note Chris Harris has a really big mouth, it would great if the Bears got another opportunity vs Panthers this season.

As much as I'd like to rail on CH for his comments, the fact is he should still be playing for the Bears. He knows it, half the Bears roster knows it, and I'll bet Lovie in his heart of hearts knows it.

I still don't mind the Chris Harris cut. He had proven to be a mediocre safety. Bears had Manning (though he was moving to CB), Mike Brown, Archuleta, McGowan and Payne. Whether you thought it was highly like that Brown would get hurt (as did Payne) and Archuleta would suck is really beside the point.

I'm not sure how the Archuleta trade made any sense whatsoever. He had proven himself to be poor in Washington. There was no reason to bring him in here and cut Harris. A mediocre safety beside Brown would have been a great improvement. Payne might be better now, but that shouldn't have prevented the Bears from keeping Harris at the time. The Archuleta move was simply nonsensical.

Well yeah, in retropsect it's easy to make that call. But how upset were you at the time the moves were made? Were you really anti-Archuleta and pro-Harris?

I agree, but he had some success under Lovie, and they gambled that he could do so again. As for the rest of the group, Brown was better. Manning, McGowan, and Payne each had more upside than Harris.

After the Archuleta move, though, it was inevitable that Harris was going. One option would have been to keep him and put Payne on the practice squad, but they obviously thought he could play right away and got something for Harris.
