The Brewers just got outscored 17-8 in a 4 game series against the Padres. They split it at home and had both Sabathia and Sheets pitch. Now they go face the Reds 3 best starters right now, then go on the road for 10 straight against the Phillies, us, and the Reds three best starters again.

This thread is embarrassing.

Because the Cubs are the best team in the NL and they are going thru a slump. It happens. It really doesnt matter who they play, they are the best team.

anyone who lets this little losing streak get them bent out of shape is basically not even worth explaining things to.

This is the same team that caught fire two weeks ago. Same strengths and same weaknesses. It's a coach cliche, but you're never as good as you look when you win and you're never as bad as you look when you lose.

everyone stressing out because we've lost a few games recently are just the type of annoying, more-comfortable-losing fans that i wish liked another team.

As the great Woody Paige likes to say on that crappy show "Around the Horn" "LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE!!" The Cubs play a solid Cardinals team who they should beat 2 out of 3. They play a Houston team that leads the season series against us. They play a good Mets team. They play a good Brewers team. These are the teams (the Reds) that the Cubs are suppose to beat and they failed to do so and it's making us all worried. I don't know how anyone is not a little bit nervous about this team.

everyone is a little bit nervous. but in reality there's nothing to be more nervous about now than when the cubs were hot. did you think they would play .800 ball for the rest of the season?

the problem lies with the people who've let the cubs play so far build them into such a sense of superiority that a little cold streak sends them running for the hills.

i'm honestly more frustrated by this upsurge in terrible posters than i am by the cubs struggles.

the only meltdown i see is on this board.

Your post is correct. The part that is not required is:

anyone who lets this little losing streak get them bent out of shape is basically not even worth explaining things to.

It's normal for fans to want to vent after a loss....and after the last couple of weeks it's certainly understandable that Cub fans might be getting a little nervous as to what the future holds.

The condenscending "you dont know what you are talking about" stuff is far worse than a casual fan worrying about his team.

Then these posts belong in rants or in the game thread. "We just lost" is not an excuse for emphatic irrationality.

Would you rather them go through a crap stretch in October or now?

I think the underlying fear is that the crap stretch now will preclude the team from playing in October.

Or at least preclude the team from setting up their rotation and resting guys before October.

I'm just glad the Brewers picked now to go on a long slump because it's saved us for now. I still personally think this team will make the playoffs but it is going to be much harder than I originally thought.

if you want to completely invalidate the argument that you're about to make, always start out the post by quoting woody paige.

seconded. my foe list has tripled in the last few days, i think.

Color me confused how it can be said the Cubs are melting down, and you expect Milw to sweep Cincy? Milw just split a 4 game series to the worst team in baseball, and has been playing just as badly as the CUbs. So please explain how the Cubs are melting down, but Milw isnt?

Ummm, Milwaukee had to face Peavy and Young in back to back games. The Padres are the 27 Yankees next to that pathetic Reds team that we lost a series to.

Are you serious right now? First of all, Chris Young isn't good. Also, the Brewers actually won the Peavy game. The games they lost were against Shawn Estes (yes, Shawn Estes) and crappy Chris Young. So losing to those 2 guys AT HOME isn't as bad as losing to Bronson Arroyo and Aaron Harand on the road? Yeah, that makes no sense and you know it.

Anyways, they'll be facing Volquez and Arroyo in that series and they've been pitching pretty well.

If this stretch continues after next week, then yeah, maybe it's time to get worried, but as long as the lead stays in the 3-5 game range there should be nothing precluding the rotation from being set properly..

Cubs will make the playoffs.

They are the best team in the NL (I guess? They do have the best record, anyway), not a very good team mind you, but the best in the NL, at least.

Huh? What does that mean? The Cubs ARE a very good team, they're just not playing well right now. I like how you try to take subtle shots while pretending to compliment us though.

The Brewers are playing just as bad as the Cubs are. The Reds could very easily take 2 of 3 from the Brewers just as easily as the Cardinals could take 2 of 3 from the Cubs. In all likelihood, both teams will snap out of their current funks.

Please explain what it would take to be a very good team in your mind? Best offense, and 1 of the best pitching staffs in baseball isnt good enough for you?

RedVerbs is actually Joe Morgan, so there aren't any good teams.

everyone realizes that milwaukee and philly play each other four teams this week, right? thus making the chances of each of them finishing 16-3 or whatever virtually zero.

Earlier this season, RedVerbs called the Cardinals the most talented of the wild card teams.

I just wanted to make sure this isn't lost in this thread somehow.

The Padres are 55-88, good for a .385 winning percentage.

The Reds are 64-79, that's a .448 winning percentage.

Didn't the Cardinals/White Sox also melt down the years they won the titles?

Optimism is needed.

A great point was made on Cubs postgame the other day where if you look back through the Diamondbacks in 2001, all the teams tha have won the WS from 2001 and on had significant stretches of wretched baseball in September.

Not that that it's some kind of model or guarentee, but it shows that a team as good as the Cubs swooning this badly now is not unheard of and not the end of the world.
