everyone realizes that milwaukee and philly play each other four teams this week, right? thus making the chances of each of them finishing 16-3 or whatever virtually zero.

Of course, when we finish up 3-16, they won't need to.

yes...if the cubs finish 3-16, they may not make the playoffs. though if the cubs do finish 3-16, the phils would still have to go 12-7 (assuming they lose tonight) to pass the cubs.

wow, are the cubs ever making the playoffs.

The Brewers DO have to deal with Volquez tommorow. Not to mention Dave Bush is going also who just got shelled by NY. Very good chance that Brewers continue to struggle.

That is a plus, however I just hope the offense shows up against Lohse on Tuesday.

Meh. With the Phils losing game 2 of the DH, our magic number for a PO spot is 12. Granted it should be 11, but it isnt. It will be pretty tough to blow this. I know bigger collpases have hapened, but the big difference between the 1964 Phillies, the 2007 Mets, the 1969/2004 Cubs is that they have NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS TEAM. Once we knock that number down to 0, then we can start worrying about the division.

This past week reminded me a lot of the first week after the ASB. A lot of folks claiming the sky was falling and I told them it was a cold streak. Remind me, how'd that turn our for us?

Seriously, NEVER judge a team by ONE week. EVER. There's a reason they play 162 games. Let's take emotions out of this, what's more believable?

86-56 Cubs team is a good team going through a rough patch?

The 86-56 Cubs team has been overperforming all year! after all they are THE cubs!!!! amirite???? /bartman

A few months or a year ago I might be panicking and making stupid posts on a message forum, but now I know better and I'm on panic police duty.

Really looking forward to that Phillies/Brewers series. A split there would be nice.

Not that I expect any team to just "roll over" for us, but wow does the rest of our schedule look like a real "running of the gauntlet" all of a sudden.

19 games remaining for all teams listed;

3 @ StL (currently 5.0 back of MIL for the Wild Card)

3 @ HOU (currently 6.0 back of MIL for the WC)

3 vs MIL (currently WC leader; 4.0 back of CHC for the Central)

3 vs StL (currently 5.0 back of MIL for the WC)

4 @ NYM (currently 2.0 up on PHI for the East)

3 @ MIL (currently WC leader, 4.0 back of CHC for the Central)

It will be tough no doubt BUUUUT

We have beaten the Cards in the last 2 series and easily could be 5-1 in the last 6 if woody didnt blow a save

we swept the brewers at home while facing their 4 best in a row and easily could have taken the series in late april if Woody didnt blow a save

I hate houston, i really do

The mets series will be tough however 2-4 is possible, especially if we somehow miss santana (though if i did this right, he would pitch the monday game)

AND SERIOUSLY

if the sky was really falling, Milwaukee wouldn't have gone cold at the same time we did

Question:

Would you rather be the Angels and on cruise control right now and not in a meaningful game for 2 months prior to the playoffs

Or would you rather be in the best position on any NL team in their division and still have to fight through some tough games and get to the playoffs in the last week of the season?

Seems to me that option B makes a team better prepared for the playoffs.

And the magic number is now 15, despite all of the Cubs suckage over the last week. NOW START WINNING, CUBS!!

Glad I was wrong about the sweep. It was a very improbable back to back wins for the Reds.

man, milwaukee is choking worse than we are.

what an embarrassing stumble to the finish line by everyone involved

Get all of the Baseball out now and then turn it on through the playoffs. Like Dempster said, they haven't faced ANY adversity all year until now and he said that might be a good thing as far as reminding them of what still needs to be done.

GOOD MORNING!

Turned off the TV with the Brewers up 4-1. Turn on the "Bottom Line" this morning hoping against hope and seeing the Reds won. It's like those TV shows where you think someone is dead but they're alive. How do you really react? I just had one of those moments (OK, on a little smaller scale).

I want the division even if our opponent is conceptually more challenging. I'll address that in the "Who we want to play" thread. But I'm happy now.

Same thing happened with me. I was very happy watching Reds highlights this morning.

Good luck to them the next two games.

I trust the Cubs enough to want a Phillies sweep.

Seriously, reading through threads like this causes one to dumb down.

If you think Cubs fans are panicking, Brewers fans must be suicidal by comparison. THEY are the ones who have to chase us and make up ground, and not the other way around. A slump is exactly that. This is too good of a team not to bounce back strong no matter who the opponent is. We've won against good teams and we've lost against bad teams. That's baseball. It happens to every single good team every single year.

When did we start cloning all these headless chicken littles?

Good thing we went on that 8 game win streak 2 weeks ago because every last piece of that streak is gone with the Cubs losing their 8th out of 9 games.
