Abandon rational thought, all ye who enter here. Everything has to be completely one thing or completely another, as there is no grey area. It's always one guy's fault, and the entire board must feel the same way about it.

I realize I am being overly doom and gloom with this comment, but how many more games off the WC lead until we start to get worried? I mean 8 games ago we had an 11 game lead, and now if Philly wins tonight its just 7. I'm still not worried about making the playoffs at this point, but I can no longer feel confident about saying that we are locks for October. Just near locks.

Now everyone call me stupid.

Aren't you the dude who started the "reassurance thread"?

kiss of death

Can blame both Ronny (and Edmonds) for bad defense and Kerry for awful pitching. And an offense that only scored 3 in 9 innings.

I don't see why people have this innate desire to blame just one person.

Its Cedeno its the cool thing to do around here. Every team has to have a whipping boy for the fans, and its Cedeno for this board

so one poster can't stand that this board loves cedeno. and you can't stand that cedeno is this board's whipping boy.

which one is it? is anyone just ok with cedeno?

Its a hell of alot more people than just 1 person who dont like Cedeno around here.

YOU'RE FULL OF CRAP. THIS BOARD MASTURABTED TO THE INFINITE POTENTIAL RONNY CEDENO UNTIL ABOUT MAY

The all caps I guess is supposed to make the more meaningful?

you're not stupid, just irrational after tough losses.

I know I'm being irrational. That's why I'm asking you, no one is worried that we've very quickly knocked off over a third of our lead in a week, and we are going to be playing a really really difficult schedule over the last 19 games?

Ladies and Gentlemen the Cubs play nothing but good teams the rest of the way. Cardinals, Astros, Brewers, Mets.

The cardinals arent a good team.

And neither are the Astros. Just because they are playing out of their heads, the Astros are not a good team. The Astros are 75-67, but their Pythagorean Record has them at 68-74. In other words, they've relied on two 8 game winning streaks in August to get where they are at presently. But in reality---even with Carlos Lee---the Astros are a bad team playing well right now. But the Cubs should still take 2 from them if not sweep them.

The thing that scares me is our schedule to end the year is brutal. Brewers, Mets, Astros, and Cardinals. The Cardinals aren't a good team but we can't even beat the Dunnless and Griffeyless Reds.

No, because sure, it's 8 games over the Phillies (maybe 7!), but the Cubs don't blow a playoff spot if just the Phillies happen to pass them. Three teams have to pass the Cubs for them to blow a playoff spot.

It's in Houston a place where we never win.

i am. the 99.whatever% is b.s., just like the cubs being so heavily favored vs the dbacks last post-season was b.s.

So Wood get's a double-play ball, but it's his fault he couldn't find the plate?

The reason they had to be looking for a double play is because Kerry couldn't find the plate. He put them in that position when all he had to do was throw strikes to bad hitters and force them to put it in play to win the game.

He did throw a few strikes that the a-hole umpire refused to call, there was one that split the plate belt high, not to mention several on the corner that were strikes all day for Harang. Don't know why I'm so POed I expected Wood to blow it.

Good to see I'm not alone. I'm not worried in the respect that I am sitting there freaking out about what the Phillies are doing, but it's definitely on my radar, unlike last week when I wasn't really paying attention to what anyone other then the Brewers were doing

It's beyond me how people insist that Ryan Theriot is better than Cedeno at baseball.

I'm just guessing but it's probably because Ryan Theriot has outperformed Ronny Cedeno at the major league level. Just a guess...

If Theriot is just short of terrible, that makes Cedeno what - far short of terrible then? This is not a difficult argument. Ryan Theriot is a below average baseball player - we all know that. However, he is the best shortstop the Cubs have and better than Cedeno.

No, it makes Cedeno a pretty unknown quantity whose floor is Ryan Theriot's ceiling.

post of the year, dudes

Only thing going for this team is that Milwaukee is choking as much as they are.

No offense, I'm tired of using that as a crutch for the Cubs suckage right now. I am tired, as most are on this board, of having to hope that whoever plays the Brewers beats them.

I really hope Lou Piniella has a heart-to-heart talk to his team in the lockerroom. That swagger the Cubs have had all yr, needs to come back, and come back NOW.

my goodness, is anyone "defending" cedeno?

the cubs lost, get over it. it's not one guy's fault and bitching at the people that, at one point, kinda liked cedeno isn't going to change it. go for a walk or something.
