Big ol' fistpump right after Sori swung. I've never seen a catcher do that crap (outside of maybe for a game ending out in a big game). That whole team is full of spazzes.

 

Granted, we have Z and Marmol doing the same stuff. But they're on our team so it's ok.

I guess if Cotts can hold it down, we do have Lee and Ramirez coming up. Unfortunately, whoever hits 2nd is an auto out since it's either Reed against Madson or Edmonds against Eyre.

 

Pretty sure Brad Lidge is going to pitch the 9th inning.

Hm, good point. Then I suppose it'll be Jimmy against Lidge, which isn't an auto out necessarily.

the phillies are celebrating after everything, whatever.

 

i'm very surprised that we beat the phillies in the first two games of the series, we never beat the phillies, and they simply weren't going to let the cubs get a series win against them.

All the years I've been a baseball fan it never hit me until yesterday, lazily watching batting practice at Wrigley Field, what an oddly feminine name "Philadelphia Phillies" is.

 

The dictionary tells us (though we already knew) that a "filly" is a young female horse or, in sexist slang, a young woman.

 

My first thought was, gee, Philadelphia Phillies sounds like the name of a WNBA franchise.

 

But even the WNBA doesn't have those girlie names: The women's professional basketball league has such teams as the Shock, the Fever, the Sparks, the Monarchs and the Storm. The "Atlanta Dream" is as close as the WNBA gets to those antique "Lumberjills" and "Lady Tigers" nicknames that speak unnessarily to gender. It happens that "Phillies" is a shortened form of "Philadelphias," so the word is just a homonym of "fillies," not a cutesy spelling of the word . It's as though we called one of our baseball teams the Chicago Chis (long i) or if the Tigers were, instead, the Detroit Deets.

The Phillies are in a heated playoff race, and playing the team with the best record in baseball at their home where they are almost unbeatable and they just got a key late inning strike out against a perrenial slugging All Star who represented the go ahead run. Give the showboating complaints a break.

True. Honestly come into the series I was hoping for a split. We'll probably be getting the split but at no point did we really show our dominance. Oh well its just 4 games in the middle of a long season.

It happens when two pretty good teams play each other. Not liking our chances with that Lidge slider and the shadows creeping in.
