I hate ESPN, so I watch mostly SportsNite and SportsRise on CSN. However, it really seems like there is a White Sox bias. I think they spend the first 7 minutes on one team highlights/interviews/analysis and the other 7 minutes on the other team, but they almost always have another segment or two on the Sox. Ozzie's ugly mug is on there almost every time I turn it on. The SportsNite In-Depth last night was supposed to be on the Cubs (per the on-screen teaser), but they spent quite a bit of time on the Sox, too. Not to mention those terrible commericials with Burhle, A.J. with Harrelson commentating.

Is this just my perception, or is CSN designed to be a Sox channel that also shows Cubs games?

I think there is no possible way a rational person could regularly watch CSN sportsnite and sportsrise and think it's a sox biased station that occasionally shows Cubs games.

And I think this is the type of ridiculous topic a lot of people like making fun of White Sox fans about.

Like I said, may just be my perception. I was just curious what others thought. Thanks for the input...

Eh we're 7.5 games up on a playoff spot while the Sox are in a heated divisional race. I think the coverage is decently even. Besides, both the Sox and Cubs own stakes in CSN, so if there was a perceived bias, I would think the Cubs would give them a little nudge and get it back to normal.

Now the radio stations are a different story. I had a 2 hour drive to make on Saturday and was excited to hear a little Cubs talk following that DWard GW home run the previous night. Between 670 and 1000, I heard maybe 10 minutes of Cubs talk. 670 was running "White Sox weekly" the entire 2 hours, which I guess is a show they are contractually obligated to do as part of their rights package, but 1000 was talking about the Sox 40% of the time, Bears 40% of the time, Phelps 15% of the time and the Cubs the remaining 5%. It kinda sucks sometimes that the Cubs flagship station is primarily a newstalk station that doesn't provide many opportunities to talk Cubs. Thankfully Sports Central is heavily biased towards the Cubs, but once training camp starts, Bears talk cuts into the Cubs talk.

Since the Cubs don't really have any TV commercials that I have seen it probably doesn't really help things.

The Sox always have tons of commercials and I never really remember seeing Cubs commercials much on TV.

The Cubs sell out every game, they don't really need to advertise the team.

I never ever felt that CSN was W.Sox bias at all. Dave Kaplan is the host for god sakes.

Thats kinda what I was trying to get at. We have no need to advertise the team, so it looks like CSN is biased in one direction. In reality the Sox need to show their players doing the worm in order to convince people to watch them play.

The Bears sell out every game and they are putting out commercials. Advertising does more than help ticket sales. The Cubs mostly run radio ads, although they do run TV commercials during Cubs games (advertising Batters Eye Suites)

This is the first big marketing campaign by the Bears in years though, according to the articles about these commercials.

I think CSN Chicago does a great job of being unbiased between the Sox and Cubs..I have noticed that they usually rotate(per day) with what team they lead the broadcast off...if CSN comes on right after a Sox game, they usually start with the Cubs and vice versa...I really don't know where this thread is coming from.

This means that they realize there are other marketing opportunities to be had with commercials besides selling tickets.

It's human nature (and well-researched and documented, at that) to find bias in neutral reporting on issues you feel passionately about.

You are passionate about the Cubs, so neutral reporting seems biased.

Such as trying to convince fans not to cry hysterically when thinking of their offense?

I've never perceived any bias. I find that they lead Sportsnite, Rise, etc., with the Cubs and the Sox pretty evenly. As for the features, again, I haven't noticed anything.

CSNC does air more Sox games than Cubs games, but then, CSNC is partially owned by the Cubs. I think it's a wash.

I'm not sure the Bears will be playing to full houses given how woeful this offense is going to be. Sure the seats might be sold, but the Bears will miss out on the extra revenue with 300% markups (beers, parking, etc.)

WGN airs more Cubs games than Sox games, I believe, which defrays that difference.

I'm a little more inclinded to watch the Sox because I want to see what Kenny Griff does.

Blah! I'd rather watch Quentin. Man, that guy is a monster!

I know, but we are talking about CSN. I was just saying that if indeed CSN did have a Sox bias (which again, I don't think they do), it might be because they air more Sox games and therefore presumably have an interest in giving them more press.
