This means that they realize there are other marketing opportunities to be had with commercials besides selling tickets.

This means the Bears know they're going to suck, as others have mentioned.

Television and radio--especially radio--fill their time talking about the problems the local teams have. Who wants to talk about how good a ballclub is doing when you can rip into another about how bad they're doing? Granted the Cubs aren't perfect (I mean, they have lost 48 of the 124 games they've played... the bums!), but they're kind of on cruise control right now. Not a whole lot to talk about, really.

I expect the Cubs coverage to get ramped up by September 1st and go into overdrive toward the end of that month. With a little luck, the rest of the country will be sick about sports media talking about the first Cubs' championship in 100 years! Though I know I'll never tire of hearing that!

I've never perceived any bias. I find that they lead Sportsnite, Rise, etc., with the Cubs and the Sox pretty evenly. As for the features, again, I haven't noticed anything.

CSNC does air more Sox games than Cubs games, but then, CSNC is partially owned by the Cubs. I think it's a wash.

WGN airs more Cubs games than Sox games, I believe, which defrays that difference.

I know, but we are talking about CSN. I was just saying that if indeed CSN did have a Sox bias (which again, I don't think they do), it might be because they air more Sox games and therefore presumably have an interest in giving them more press.

Oh, I see now.

All the numbers say that the Cubs have a bigger fanbase, and generate more revenue. However, in my experience, there are a lot more Sox fans around me than Cubs fans. Most of my coworkers are Sox fans, and I work in the northwest suburbs.

That's true. As you know, I work in the Northwest suburbs, at the Daily Herald. I live out here too. There are a lot of Sox fans. As far as CSN goes, knowing the people there, I don't see any intentional bias. It's funny, because for years, the Sox and Sox fans have been the ones who complained about bias. Bill Veeck measured column inches with a ruler one time. Eddie Einhorn commented about it earlier in his ownership group's tenure.

At WhiteSoxInteractive.com, there used to be a poster (pre-2005) who actually counted the number of articles in the Trib and Sun Times (not the Herald, sorry Bruce) about both the Cubs and Sox throughout the year. The Cubs actually had decidedly more articles printed than the Sox in both papers, so who knows.

Edit: BTW, nice interview during the rain delay on Sunday Bruce.

We're all going to have different anecdotal evidence like this, but in my far north suburban upbringing there was only one Sox fan among all the people I knew. And we made fun of him.

Thanks. Actually, it was the pregame show. We did have a delay, but they called it an "atmospheric conditions delay." First time I've heard that one. They expected rain, but it never came. And I made it out before the tropical storm hit.

Bruce, while you're meandering this thread:

Are the Cubs doing anything differently this week in regards to Zambrano's side-sessions as far as getting him to stay back and stay on top of the ball in his delivery?

That's what Rothschild talked about. I don't suppose he'll have a side until later today, so I don't know yet.

He seems to get in these mechanical funks around this time of year where it lasts for a handful of starts, it looks like this is one of his bad stretches.

Frankly as soon as CSC starts talking White Sox I usually switch the channel. As far as I'm concerned that channel only talks Cubs 8-)
