I am going to go to sleep tonight and pray that the Cubs are this hot when the playoffs come around. If they are hitting like they did coming out of the break, we are screwed. But if they are hitting like this, the Cubs will be unstoppable and that's all there is to it.

I feel like I'm rich and relaxing at my mansion, and the Cubs are my butler, doing everything I want.

Last time the Cubs won 8 in a row on the road?

1945.

I refuse to believe that statistic.

Straight from the mouth of Pat Hughes.

I just can't believe that the Cubs in the last 63 years have been unable to win 8 in a row on the road. I mean I know the Cubs haven't had the best teams, but wow.

:-k

I swore ESPN said the cubs' downfall this year was that they were terrible on the road.

This is odd...

I'm listening on my cheap little $5 walkman. WGN is full of static and is coming in poorly, but I can hear Marty Brenneman in the background over Pat Hughes announcing the Reds game, and that's coming in clear as a bell.

Weird.

then you're on 700 not 720

I'm on 720, and it slowly fades in. I just adjusted it now, and I can hear Pat and Ron, but in about a few minutes, I'm going to hear Marty again until his voice overtakes Pat's and I'll have to fidget with the tuner knob again.

Sometimes frequencies will bleed when they are relatively close together, depending a various things. Happens more at night because there's alot more atmospheric bounce after the sun goes down.

It's more likely than you think!

I like Lilly, he stands up for his team. He's gotten smarter about plunking since that suspension. Perfect timing this one, he was gassed, knew it was his last inning, and sent a message. Nice job.

They were terrible. Then they got hot. After this streak ends if we can manage .500 on the road the rest of the way we'll be in good shape.

Just to balance out all the optimism in this thread (which, believe me, I'm feeling too)....enjoy this now, because after three days in our personal hell, things could feel a lot differently

But seriously...god this is awesome.

I don't care what a pitcher's WHIP or ERA+ is, as long as he knows when to plunk a guy.

I was under the impression that there was less atmospheric bounce at night. I can certainly hear AM stations further from the source at night.

regarding Lilly's performance:

Any of you guys think that after the team using up the bullpen yesterday, lilly was instructed to pitch to contact even more than usual to conserve pitches and go deeper.

on a grander scale, to things like this affect players' statistic over the course of a season?

I think Ted def did that on purpose.

Yeah, he got him right in the ribs. I think he did it on purpose. Braves radio speculates that the Cubs hit Escobar because he's buddies with Bueno in Cuba and since that guy go sent down, Escobar was the next best thing... Not to mention that ball he riffled back at Lilly earlier.

I thought Bueno was suspended?

He was but he was also sent down prior to the game so he'll have to wait to serve his three games if/when he's recalled.
