  1. I like Lilly, he stands up for his team. He's gotten smarter about plunking since that suspension. Perfect timing this one, he was gassed, knew it was his last inning, and sent a message. Nice job.
  2. I refuse to believe that statistic. Straight from the mouth of Pat Hughes. Kaplan said in CTL that it was 1908, so who knows.
  3. Redivycub & UM: I figured you might have a valid argument, so I decided to do a little research: Using Monday-Thursday games in April: Excluding opening day, Night average attendance: 39,852 Day average attendance: 39,370 less then a 500 difference. With opening day Day attendance averages: 39,713, 139 difference. May gets better, same formula: M-Th, 6 night 3 day games: Night average attendance: 39,816 Day average attendance: 41,020, over a thousand in attendance difference. I looked a little bit into June and since I'm tired of dividing, suffice to say there was low double digit differences in day/night attendance and was a full 1500 better. Night games early in the season do not boost attendance to any significant degree. Warm weather seems to have a better effect. The average daytime temp was 12 degrees higher on average in April and 9 degrees in May. Move the night games to the warm months!!! :clapping:
  4. Most are missing the big issue: Why are there 5 night games in April and 3 in May? Take those eight games and put them in July and August where they belong. The ordinance can easily be changed and there are provisions in it for national broadcasts and playoffs. The main issue about weekend night games is you get a large group of people together that have a beer or two at 6pm, walk to the ballpark for the 7:05 start, have 3-5 more 16 oz beers and then go to one of the numerous establishments that crowd the area. No one has work for the most part on a Saturday or Sunday so they may stay till closing time..... not a pretty picture.
  5. Giles would make a bit more sense if, Edmonds is hurt worse then they have let on. Fukudome can play in CF, Giles in RF and Lou would get a nice lineup against rhp. Plus you could easily give Aramis and DLee more time off plugging DeRo into their posistions. Plus Giles off the bench in a late inning at bat.........WOW.
  6. Two questions keep popping in my head 1. Which was the act of retribution? (the fine or giving Cannings group the F/U) 2. Did Selig actually believe that his guy would make the cut, just cause it's "his guy"??
  7. See, you miss the whole point. He is a paid employee of the Reds organization. He is the "voice" of Reds baseball. He is paid to announce an event, not to spew bigotry upon a group of people and a team. I am not condoning the actions of the idiots mind you, but you expect a high level of professionalism from a HOF broadcaster....
  8. It was before my coffee, so sorry, but somebody picked me up. 15 and 15. Was what I really meant. Might be kind of fun to go play on a nine game roadtrip 3 NYM, 3 NYY and 3 with the Nats. You play your division rivals 18 games, non divisional intra-league 6 games a piece , and the twenty left would be the "rotational series" 4 three game and 2 four game series. Remember as an alum of the CPS, my math might be a bit off.
  9. Get rid of the dh, expand the every day roster to 27 and make the 40 man roster 43. Add a 5 day DL for position players only. Rework the rules for options and waivers. Either get rid of inter-league play, or make it part of evening up the leagues: 29/29, odd team out that week from each league play each other. Best record at end of season gets home field for play offs. Just minor tweaks....
  10. You act as if this team can't win with Felix. That's nonsense. Thats not it at all. I just think that Cubs have put winning a World Series in front of developing Felix. I don't know if this is the right move or not. I not sure if I like the idea of signing Edmonds. Felix needs ABs and Lou is not going to play him then only way he will get ABs is in the minors. sorry to pick on you but i see this all the time and it drives me insane. saying you are putting a world series infront of developing a player is a bs cop-out. these things are not mutually exclusive and its incredibly inaccurate to say they are, particulary with the way the Cubs offense has produced. they can have Felix in CF against most/all RHP and still wait for him to adjust while still winning. saying felix needs to go to Iowa to get at-bats is equally insane in my opinion. he's done absolutely nothing but completely dominate PCL pitching the last two years. it's time for him to get a valid oppurtunity at the ML level to see if he can/will adjust, just like he did at every other level. Jim Edmonds may come in and put up better numbers than Felix against RHP in the short term (I doubt it), but it's still a poor strategy if the overall goal is to win championships (with an "s"). If you looked at my other posts I said that has to be what the team is thinking not what I'm thinking. If Lou isn't going to play Felix, then where can he get ABs? He is not getting them now. Felix is in Lou's doghouse for some reason. Maybe it is because he never takes a walk, maybe it is because he swings at breaking balls in the dirt every time. But for Felix to get ABs everyday it is going to have to be in AAA because Lou is not playing him everyday. :amen: If Felix got on base at a better clip and used his speed to help the club, this would be a non issue. I think Edmonds can succeed in this situation. Felix will get his confidence back with regular at bats, Edmonds will hit to his strength and is playing in a smaller park. Soto rather then Greene/Bard will be protecting him and Johnson will be the late game defensive sub when Edmonds starts. The biggest benefit is Fukudome going into the 2 spot, his natural spot in MLB. Not a move that will win the WS, but one that can overcome the inevitable Ramirez D/L stint and keep the cubs as front runners till they can get a quality SP at the trade deadline.
  11. Hello all...just a refugee from another board, and wanted to express a thought: I knew SD was not a great club but how did they get 14 wins so far???
