I always wondered this....

In this situation with Dempster on deck and obviously going to stay in...the pitcher is obviously going to work around you to get to the 9 spot.

Would it ever make sense to intentionally expand your strike zone and swing at a possible bad pitch to bait the pitcher into giving you an actual AB? I am assuming it would make more sense if you are a better bad ball hitter.

Wow 2 outs in the basepaths this inning.

Anyone with some insight. I've always wondered this, and if its possible to intentionally swing at a wild pitch with 2 strikes and run to first.

Technically, yes. But extremely difficult to do.

I would just wonder if its even smart to do it. Swinging at a bad pitch can lead to really bad things happening. The only time this would even enter my conscious as a possibility is if its 2 outs, the hitter up is decent bad ball hitter, and the pitcher is especially awful.

It's possible, but you've gotta be real quick on your feet to recognize that pitch is going to the backstop.

I used to do the other thing you were talking about when I'd get IBBd in coed softball. Swing on the first 2 to go down 0-2 in the count. This was of course not baseball though.

My thing is I think guys should let infield fly rule pop ups drop. I'd figure at least 5 times a year you'd have some dumb guy getting doubled off since they don't understand the rule.

Pat & Ron reported that Carpenter has a right triceps strain.

He was starting to overthrow towards the end. It was a bad move by the Cards, it could've happened at any moment, just less likely if he was still rehabbing at Memphis since he likely wouldn't be throwing max effort around 65 pitches.

They rushed him, IMO.

the steal was done to get the runner closer to home, apparently. thanks JM

Yes but technically he actually went farther away from home if you measure the distances. I'm surprised Morgan didn't use this logic to determine it's actually a bad decision to steal there.

there's no point in catching them, right?

We're going to let them chip away at this lead until its a game again. Can't ever have a relaxing win anymore, I guess.

Unless it's Miller Park a little over a week ago, but yeah we haven't been putting teams away lately.

I dont know if Shark is ready for Pujols yet, and then Ludwick if he gets on. I guess we'll soon find out.

It's really been sink or swim with, uh, Shark. But so far he's been good, so let's see him blast a few by Albert here!

Someone gives Edmonds glasses so he can pick up Quade's signs.

That might not matter too much.

He didn't even bother looking at Quade.

And then Cedeño too. :(

I was implying that Quade could have sent him anyway, you never know.

The homerun is an out rule around here really limits the amount of times I don't take a walk.
