The radio guys here in St. Louis had some pretty complimentary things to say about the Cubs this morning. They also couldn't believe the fact that Zambrano has a higher average than Pujols.

Zambrano could hit 400 with his limited plate appearances.

What is the record for highest batting average by a pitcher with a least 60 AB's?

Depends how many innings the pitcher had to have pitched. I'm pretty sure Babe Ruth is up there, with his .376BA in his first year with the Yankees... he only pitched 9 innings that year, though.

His highest average when he was pitching regularly was .325...

Thanks David and Jersey....433? Wow, Walter might have been able to be Ruth before Ruth....maybe a Cobb perhaps?

590 or 1380?

Aside from their idiotic statements to appease the masses here ("You know they're gonna choke! 1908!") it's pretty hard not to be complimentary to a team that is clearly the class of the National League thus far.

590 I think. I was flipping back and forth trying to find baseball talk. It was whichever was wasn't talking about if they'd rather live without TV or the internet.

Usually when the Cubs are playing the Cards, the radio people (mind you, this is usually on 105.7) are talking about how Chicago women are whores and how they smell bad. No joke. So I was surprised to hear kind words.

But those are the women that moved from a cruddy city like St. Louis (or Milwaukee) to a real city like Chicago.

You can take the whore out of the dump, but you can't wash the smell off. They're usually the ones wearing the pink Cubs hats and jerseys. Real Chicago women wear Cubbie blue (and smell good).

There's good whores and bad whores. I assume they're talking about the bad ones.

The interchanging of Fukudome and Edmonds and Derosa and Soto is baffling. Maybe Lou just feels the need to tinker, but you'd think Derosa would stay hitting 6th with the way he's been hitting the ball lately and driving in the middle of the order.

Maybe Lou is thinking DeRosa is "in the zone" right now and might be able to better distinguish the strikezone right now than Soto and might take some walks in front of Lilly (for sac bunts) and Soriano (for 800 foot homers) and figures Soto might see some better pitches with Edmonds and DeRosa behind him. Could be a stretch, but in some ways it makes sense.

Looper will not last 6 innings.

Looper's last 2 starts: both 7 IP, 2 ERs. His only start vs. the Cubs this season 7 IP, 2 ERs.

He started 4 times against the Cubs last year.

I'm pretty confident Lou made his decision based on Derosa's 14 at-bats and Edmonds 4 at-bats against Looper.
