If your team has great pitching and if it has a great offense and if they both perform up to their ability then it might happen. It's not common.

 

I'll be busy brute-force looking through team records to see if I can find any like it this season (So far I can say the Angels have come nowhere close to one

 

I'm not sure why you're expecting the players to play up to their ability day in and day out for 162 games. It's not going to happen. It never has and it never will. All players go through slumps. It happens. It was a fluky stretch and it's not a big deal at all.

He has been productive as hell for the Cubs what the hell do you really expect? We want to win games, and Jim has helped us do that big time. You seriously cant be that naive to not see this

That's just so wrong.

You are the guys that kicked him to the curb when he still had a ton in the tank. Ludwick, Edmonds, and Ankiel would be a helluva outfield.

 

1) I have no problem with Jimmy going to the Cubs. I'm diehard Cards fan and can think of many worse things than playing CF for the Cubs.

 

2) I'm not sure how much he had left in the tank, but yes he has his spots when motivated.

 

3) I'm only saying it's tough to imagine hating someone so much (as Cub fans did Edmonds) and then referring to him with affectionate nicknames.

Most people here didn't like him coming to the Cubs because we thought he was going to suck and didn't have much faith in him doing anything worthwhile. But he's turned into one of the Cubs best hitters so why wouldn't we like him?

No, he still wears eyeliner and I'm ordering an Edmonds jersey tee to turn into a half shirt, but we still like him. Especially when he hits homeruns and drives daggers through the hearts of Cardinal fans.

which makes it even more unlikely

teams without a similar stretch (all the ones I've looked over so far): Angels, Boston, Brewers, Cubs outside of the current one. Of course it's not a big deal. It's very unusual.

I see where you are coming from. Man, I *hated* Edmonds and really didn't come around until well into his Cubs tenure. He's greatly exceeded expectations and helped us win some big ballgames in a year that we have a chance to do something great, that's the reason for the love. Our love for the Cubs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>our hatred for Edmonds as a Cardinal. If this were an average year, I think we would still root for him...but it wouldn't be to this extent.

Of course he was hated he was on the rival team of the Cubs, and always seemed to hurt us. I dont see why its so weird to see Cub fans love a guy whos been productive as hell for the Cubs, and the fact hes doing it against the Cardinals, with the Cards paying his salary makes it very very sweet.
