Wandy is extremely hard to beat at home

This year:

7 starts

2.72 ERA

1.07 WHIP

Last year:

15 starts

2.94 ERA

1.11 WHIP

His only start in Houston against the Cubs last year:

8 IP 4 H 1 ER 2 BB 9 K

Based on that, we better hope Zambrano is sharp and can go deep today because this pitching matchup will be even harder than last nights

Posted
Please beat these stupid Astros tonight and tomorrow. I hate living in Texas when these morons beat us. The p***s envy is strong towards the Cubs from Houston fans.

Lose today and some of the creatures of the Earth will have to die. Their lives are in your hands, Cubs.

We need to win these next 2, especialy with the fact that neither the Brewers or Cards are going to lose again until they play eachother. Also, it would be a nice way to start a little streak, as we will be entering a 3 game set against a majorly de-fanged D-Backs team, and will be missing Haren and Webb. Sure, we'll be facing Randy Johnson, but it's not the same guy who bent over The Cubs and made them dress like Little Bo Peep for the better part of 2 decades.

I don't want to start a new thread, but...

how seriously do you consider DFAing Bob Howry pretty soon? His contract is up at the end of the year, and let's face it, he's been pretty bad this year. If there's a market for him, obviously you look to trade him first, but if there's not any interest you almost have to look at releasing him.

Wow that's quite amazing that we get a 3 gamer vs. AZ and not face Haren or Webb. I bet Brewers/Cardinals fans are bitching that we play Arizona 6 times this year and faced Haren once and Webb 0 times.

No way you release him. The Cubs have a decent shot at getting a compensation pick at the end of the year for Howry, and that's lost if they release him.

A or B?

Howry has been fine this year. His walks and strikeouts are down a little bit, and with more batted balls some bad luck has hurt him more than it might've in the past. I mean, he's got a 35/6 K/BB, he's far, far, far from deserving to be DFA'd.

My guess is a B. Which is a good thing. Nobody would sign him and give up their first rounder. But if he's a B, teams will feel free to sign him before the deadline because it's not their pick that's going to the other team.

No way you release him. The Cubs have a decent shot at getting a compensation pick at the end of the year for Howry, and that's lost if they release him.

A or B?

My guess is a B. Which is a good thing. Nobody would sign him and give up their first rounder. But if he's a B, teams will feel free to sign him before the deadline because it's not their pick that's going to the other team.

Good point. I wonder if a desperate team with little or no pen would make a gamble on Howry bouncing back? Again as you said, the player would have to be better than a B pick. The only kink is if the Cubs have to offer arb and no one signs him and he accepts the arb.

Well, my hope is that the trend continues from the last couple years and somebody signs him early in free agency before the arbitration deadline. The Cubs have absolutely no risk if he's under contract with another team already to offer him arbitration.

If he's not, the Cubs will have to gauge the interest of other teams carefully at that deadline, but the worst case scenario (him accepting arbitration) really isn't that horrible.

Wow that's quite amazing that we get a 3 gamer vs. AZ and not face Haren or Webb. I bet Brewers/Cardinals fans are bitching that we play Arizona 6 times this year and faced Haren once and Webb 0 times.

We had Haren and we beat him. It was at the beginnig of Sorianos hot streak,

Things will more than even out if we draw Arizona in a playoff series and have to face them possibly 4 times.

If both teams make the playoffs, it's very likely they would play each other. Looks like best record and wildcard will come out of the Central. Winner of the NLC would play the division winner w/ the worst record, that's most likely going to be the team that comes out of the West.
