Sorry if this has been discussed, but what are the corresponding roster moves? Obviously, Gaudin takes Gallaghers spot as the long relief/spot starter. Obviosuly, Harden enters the rotation, but does he take Marquis or Marshalls spot. What happens to the other?

Will Micah Hofpauir come up for Murtons spot, or do they want a righty? Jason DuBois is the first option in that case. Im not oposed to giving him 1 more chance before closing the book once and for all.

Did Hendry just say that the Cubs' doctors already examined Harden?

Hendry said earlier in his press conference that the doctors have thoroughly examined Harden.

Harden was in Chicago this past weekend.

Did Hendry say that? Wow.

I listened to the press conferences and Hendry during the game and I didnt get that at all. He said that Beane made the A's doctors available to our doctors and was very open with all the medicals, but I'm pretty darn sure that he never said we examined Harden himself.

No. He lost to the White Sox on Sunday (5.0 IP, 95 pitches, 3R/2ER).

oh...another move may be Mr. bad disposition bradley

just food for thought

I've been wanting him for years now. If we acquire him the offense would be incredible!

That's only until one of the drunk bleacher bumbs pisses him off. Also which position is he playing for us, center over Edmonds?

I wonder how he is in centerfield. It would be tough to trade for Bradley while Edmonds is performing so well.

[injury history is really the only way Sabathia is better than Harden.

But injury history is a huge factor

It is. But it's the only factor over which Harden is at a disadvantage. Age, stuff, numbers, control, contract all favor Harden--dramatically in some areas.

As much as I never thought I'd say it..... Edmonds has been doing quite well for us.

But yes, Bradley would be great until he goes ape poopy and kills someone.

So why did we get Harden AND another respectable pitcher for 1 pitching prospect, a guy who will be a platoon outfielder at best, a guy whose proven he cant field to save his life, and a catcher we wouldnt need for years anyway?

And am I crazy for wishing Hoffpauir was in the deal? He could thrive in Oakland, at least as a DH.

Yes you're crazy for wishing we gave up more than we did.

And for thinking that Hoffpauir will thrive anywhere as a full time player.

i think LLF is hoffpauir's dad. that's the only thing that can explain his amount of hoffpauir love.

bradley can't really play CF any more, but then again, the same can be said about edmonds.

I'd be ok with trading for Bradley and making Jim the 4th OF.

The view from Rotoworld

Cubs acquired RHPs Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin from the Oakland Athletics for RHP Sean Gallagher, OF Matt Murton, INF Eric Patterson and C Josh Donaldson.

The Cubs are looking to end a 100-year drought by acquiring a pitcher who can't stay healthy for more than 100 innings a year. Harden is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season, and has 92 strikeouts in 77 innings, but he's going from one of the better pitcher's parks to one of the worst. He also hasn't pitched more than 50 innings in the last two seasons, so the Cubs will risk making Harden even more injury-prone (is that possible) if they expect him to pitch regularly over the rest of the season. It's not a huge haul for Oakland, but these injury concerns likely drove the price down.

Gaudin is a nice pickup in this deal. He has done wonders with his control. Gotta give props to the Oakland pitching coach. He was walking a guy every other inning and giving up a hit plus per inning. That's a lot of baserunners. A WHIP of 1.6. He's down to 1.28 right now, which is decent.

What can I say, I think he has what it takes, he just needs the opportunity.

But edmonds is a gold glover! He can patrol CF until he walks like a retired lineman if he wants to.

Wow. Got home from work, turned on the game... and Len was talking about this deal. Good deal by Hendry. I'm very sad to see Gallagher go -- and Mr. Gallagher, I hope you'll keep us up-to-date on Sean's doings -- because I think he's going to be a very good pitcher. I wish him every success in Oakland. I'm also happy for Murton and Patterson. I hope they to get an opportunity to play, which wasn't going to happen with the Cubs.

Still, that said, I'm excited to see Harden in Cubs uniform and I hope he helps win the WS!!

There was no way Rotoworld could bring themselves to admit Hendry got the better of Beane.

He really seems to. Yeah, Gallagher has a bright future, but Murton never had a chance on the Cubs, and Patterson is 25 and didnt earn many brownie points in his last few games on the big league club. I dont know much about Donaldson, but with Soto, and Castillo behind him, I dont know what his future looked like.
