I think we're due to go on a skid; I'm more concerned about any potential health issues...

It's the wrong time for that skid with the W.Sox in town.

Yeah, if we get too far behind them we'll never make th playoffs!

Lefties hit Gallagher pretty well, so I'm worried about how Sean will handle Crawford tonight.

That said, the Cubs are due. We haven't lost 3 in a row all year. I'm fairly confident about this one tonight.

Crawford, and Aybar, and Floyd, and Navarro, and Iwamura, and Hinske too. The lineup will be stacked with LH hitters tonight. And if they get on, they are gonna run. The Rays like to run, and unfortunately, I see them having some success on the Gallagher/Soto combination.

He's right, though.

The Sox series is pretty meaningless and actually if there were a less inopportune time (does that make sense?) to go on a skid, it would be during a relatively meaningless, non-division stretch of games.

I mean, sure, if you want to stick it to your Sox fans friends, it would be better if said skid came during games against the Royals or something, but the Sox series isn't really a huge priority.

He could also mean that he'd rather the Cubs be unhealthy against bad teams and healthy against a first place team like the White Sox.

Sure if that's what was said. What I meant was that it's not a fine time to start playing bad because the W.Sox are a good team and we could lose another series. I don't like losing no matter who we are playing.

But going on a skid assumes you will lose games, so it really doesn't matter who they are a playing.

Not if the skid ends with the next series. If you're trying to break a skid wouldn't that be easier playing a lesser team?

A.J. Burnett vs. Dave Bush and the Brewers. Could this be A.J. last game in a Blow Jays uniform?

How creative.

8 earned in 5 for our friend A.J.

Well I guess that can only lower the trade value, right?

I feel like Gally's going to have a good day. Dunno why, just feels that way.

I don't feel like now is the time for our first time getting swept this year, so I agree with you.

I predict that we'll be down 2 going into the 9th, but unlike the previous 2 games, we'll actually come back instead of scoring 1, scoring 4 instead.

Same here.

I'm going on the idea that he has good stuff, he needs to put it all together. That can happen anytime, but let's hope for now.

I prefer a non-stressful game where the Cubs take an early lead and never give it up.

I don't think he's been all that bad. He has put it together to a certain degree. He hasn't given up more than 3 ER since May (albeit his last 3 starts only went 5 innings or so). I think Gally keeps it reasonable tonight. I still don't think this Rays team is all that great. They're playing well though.

It's been a while since we had one of those. It would be nice for a change. :beg:

Harry just said on MJH that if the Cubs win tonight, this'll be the first time in the Pat Hughes era that the Cubs will have a lead as big as 4.5 games.

Can that be true?

night game on get-away day before a day game. nice scheduling there MLB

The club has pretty broad discretionary powers on what times games are. Blame TB for this, not MLB.

Hmm. I thought Pat Hughes was with the Cubs in 2001 when they had a 5+ game lead before the AS Break ?

I wasn't aware Pat Hughes had an era. That's definitely incorrect. We were up 6 games as late as late July 2001. Since then I don't think we have been more than 3.5 up.

Or blame Lakeview for not letting there be night games on Fridays.

Almost certain it isn't because they mentioned something along those lines earlier this year and people pulled up that we were ahead by more in '01.

I think Pat has been with the Cubs since 97. I remember listening to him in 98 because Pat and Ron are one of the reasons that the Cubs became my sole favorite team. I am also pretty sure we had some pretty big leads in 2001 and am about 99% sure that there were times when we had a bigger than 4.5 game lead
