Notre Dame wins essentially because Harangody made a 40 footer at the end of a shot clock.

Better lucky than good. But it's LFH, so all is possible.

Win or lose, getting to play UNC will be a nice boost to our SOS. Need to shoot FTs better, that was supposed to be our biggest strength last year.

Iowa won by 34 tonight against a bad Southeast Missouri State team to get to 5-0. They're playing cupcakes but in 4 of the 5 games they've had an offensive efficiency better than they did in any game last year.

Now things get started. In Las Vegas to play West Virginia on Friday night and then Kentucky/Kansas State on Saturday. At Boston College Tuesday. Win at least one.

Considering it was IU that found the illegal phone calls, reported them to the NCAA and subsequently fired the coach, I'd say they were clearly monitoring. It may not have been found soon enough, nor was Sampson fired soon enough, but they did almost everything you could ask of them after the initial grievous mistake of hiring Sampson.

This is exactly why I think they should have gotten more. They went out and hired him even though he was still on probation from his screw ups at OU.

He didn't have a show cause. If the NCAA didn't want someone to hire him, they should have imposed sanctions against him moving jobs. They didn't; therefore, they implicitly gave other schools permission to hire him.

I understand your point, but just because you aren't explicitly forbidden from doing something doesn't mean that doing it is a good idea.

I'm an Illinois fan and I really don't hold any grudge toward IU now that they've gotten rid of the scumbag and appear to be doing things right now. I really hope all B10 teams do well other than when they play Illinois because it makes the conference look better and things easier in the postseason.

i can remember when illini fans wanted sampson to coach our team.

Not any sane ones. I really honestly don't ever remember hearing that.

Please beat BC. I'll even root for you.

And, this is probably the early season Big 10 kool aid in me(Thanks Michigan!), but if Iowa beats BC, we'll win the Challenge this year.

Since I'm the only big-time Big East homer on this board, I might as well talk up Seton Hall's win over USC, Syracuse's win over Florida last night, and Syracuse leading Kansas right now, and UConn destroying Wisconsin last night, and ND over Texas.

There, I'm done, I promise.

Purdue's got BC for the semi-finals tomorrow...anyone know what the other side of the bracket is?

Oklahoma vs. Arizona....err, UAB. OU-UAB.

Ha oh I fogot about that. Think we should have no problem with BC, but Blake Griffin is disgusting. I think we'll struggle to guard him. Who'll guard him?

Just pray that he gets in foul trouble early. Calasan is physically stronger than Johnson, so Calasan would probably be the best option to put on him.

That's what I'm thinking, but Calasan is a hacker, I don't have a good feeling about him stopping him. Will see though

I'm not sure Purdue will stop Griffin at all. I'm also not sure that will keep them from winning.

If OU doesn't shoot well, the Sooners will get beat. OU is weakest at guard.

I know nothing about Purdue, other than they're good.

The Big East is the best conference and no other is particularly close. I don't think you're going to get much of an argument here. Until you start looking for 10-11 teams in the tourney.

Doing something that falls short of a good idea should not be a punishable offense. Schools should only get punished for breaking the rules. IU has certainly payed for the poor decision to hire Sampson -- with a team that will probably win about eight games this year and hopefully 16-20 next year.

boy we pissed that game away. not surprising. with so many young dudes, we'll do that a few more times this season.

Kansas has been impressive from what I've seen all things considered. But they certainly should have won this game.

Also, Johnny Flynn's behavior left a lot to be desired.

He should have been t'd up when he swiped at Reed. That was lame. They made a hell of a comeback though. And the KU young guys didn't respond. We really need one more scoring option. Can't wait till Mario Little gets healthy.

Cubbies, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we lost in Columbia this year.

My guess is Purdue knows they have no one really suited to play Griffin so they will concentrate on shutting everyone else down. Purdue has one of the best if not groups of perimeter players in the country so I think they can shut down OU's guards and wing players. Griffin will dominate but most everyone else should struggle. Purdue will take OU getting points inside while they get points outside.

Also I would say Johnson is the better player for Griffin. Yes Calasan is the stronger one but he isn't strong enough for Griffin. Griffin can over power both pretty easily therefore I think Johnson just because of his height, athleticism and shot blocking ability is the better go. He could at least affect shots and maybe block a few. Calasan wouldn't be able to do much of anything.

Calasan is 6'9, 250. Johnson is 6'10, 215. Calasan is a much more physical player. While neither is a great matchup for Griffin, Calasan's a better rebounder than Johnson. While I'll agree that Johnson is a better defensive player, his approach to shot blocking will just get him in foul trouble against a much stronger player like Griffin.

It doesn't really matter anyway. They're both going to get a lot of minutes, unless one of them gets in foul trouble early.

Isn't Griffin basically there whole team though?

At this point I'd think Missouri would have to be favored in Columbia. They've played well so far. Long way to go and KU has looked much better than I expected this early.

They appear to have a couple other guys who can score. It doesn't appear they are a very good three-point shooting team though. Problem is, when they miss, they have Griffin to get the rebound.
