One more nerd post on the Big Ten/ACC Challenge....from Sagarin's numbers (actual numbers + home/home neutral factor):

Monday, Dec. 1

Wisconsin (82.65) at Virginia Tech (79.01 + 4 = 83.01): EVEN

Tuesday, Dec. 2

Duke (91.46) at Purdue (87.76 + 4 = 91.76): EVEN

Clemson (88.08) at Illinois (84.25 + 4 = 88.25): EVEN

Ohio State (84.21) at Miami (84.67 + 4 = 88.67): Miami by 4

Virginia (73.48) at Minnesota (78.63 + 4 = 82.63): Minnesota by 9

Iowa (79.95) at Boston College (83.25 + 4 = 87.25): Boston College by 7

Wednesday, Dec. 3

North Carolina (95.97) vs. Michigan State (from Ford Field) (85.64 + 2 = 87.64): North Carolina by 8

Indiana (72.11) at Wake Forest (84.50 + 4 = 88.50): Wake Forest by 16

Michigan (80.81) at Maryland (83.23 + 4 = 87.23): Maryland by 6

Florida State (78.80) at Northwestern (82.24 + 4 = 86.24): Northwestern by 7

Penn State (79.63) at Georgia Tech (80.75 + 4 = 84.75): Georgia Tech by 5

Sagarin shows clear advantages in 6 of the games for the ACC, and 2 of the games for the Big Ten. 3 that are essentially toss-ups, with slight edges towards Illinois and Purdue in 2 of the games, and Virginia Tech in the third.

Wake Forest will beat IU by way more than 16. My goal is the same as it was for the Notre Dame game: less than 30.

I still don't get where the matchups come from. It would seem to make sense to me to just match them up spot to spot according to the previous year's standings.

That would make the matchups:

Wisky/UNC

PU/Duke

IU/Clemson

MSU/VT

OSU/Miami

MN/MD

PSU/GT

Iowa/FSU

UM/Wake

ILL/VA

NU/BC

Doesn't really change much overall, but it makes more sense this way IMO.

UCLA at Texas Thursday should be fun. I expect a loss especially since the game is in Austin but it should be a good test for Jrue after his huge game Saturday against an inferior opponent.

Where is shnsajax?

Looks like Michigan's OT Home win vs. Savanah State didn't impress as many voters as I had hoped.

It apparently impressed one voter, which is more than I was expecting.

I think they had 4 votes last week, so it actually turned off 3 voters. They obviously don't respect the pure awesomeness of Savanah State.

I figured Purdue would drop to the mid-teens.

Well Oklahoma looked pretty good and we lost to them in OT. Will see what happens this week against Duke and what happens with Oklahoma and if they're for real.

Yeah, hopefully they learn from that game. There were a couple of critical offensive breakdowns late, that cost them the win.

yea we definitely played some of the worst offense I've seen in the last minute and a half or so.

I think they got frustrated by the calls and got scared to run the offense. To be honest while I was glad he did it I think Painter's non-stop yelling at the refs didn't help get the team focused. At the end of OT I was actually hoping Painter would just blow and go all Gene Keady on the refs asses (after the called foul oh wait no its an inadvertent whistle).

No way Michigan State deserves to be ahead of Tennessee. None. That said, if MSU and Xavier were switched, I could live with that.

Agree'd MSU lost to a non-ranked middle of the road ACC team.

Agreed. If MSU plays like that they're going to lose by about 35 to UNC. If they play like that all year, the Big Ten might only get 3 tourney teams.

(They won't, but still yeesh)

Short of throwing his jacket, he pretty much did. I was at the game, and he was yelling non-stop at the official that called the intentional foul for a good two or three minutes straight. As he approached the scorer's table after the game to shake hands with the Oklahoma coach, Painter had to be pulled back by two of his assistants because he was right in the ear of the ref.

The official didn't even look in Painter's direction the entire time. Of course, I was shouting at the same ref the last 10 minutes of the second half and all of the overtime period, so perhaps he couldn't hear Painter over me.

That intentional foul was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Not to mention it essentially put the nail in the coffin rather than us being down by the 3 with the ball at least
