Cedeno + Marshall + Ceda might be enough.

Or if the Jays prefer, Marshall and Hill are interchangeable, Ceda could be replaced with any other minor league arm, and Patterson or Murton could swap in for Cedeno.

I'm happy with any of those scenarios. I've always been a fan of Burnett and I think he'd be a great fit.

He is another 5-6 inning pitcher. Good luck to the pen if we get him.

Toronto needs hitting and will not give him up for nothing..

He's averaging over 6 per start this year...and every other(non cup of coffee) year of his career.

Burnett had more to say on Sunday.

Link.

Blue Jays fans might question whether Burnett was somehow insulting the city of Toronto by saying he'd like to play in a "place where baseball is breakfast, lunch and dinner." Burnett said he was merely describing the atmosphere surrounding the Cubs.

"That's just how it is there," Burnett said. "It's nothing against Toronto -- that's just how it is in Chicago."

Burnett added that he wasn't worried about the fans' reaction to his comments, pointing out again that he's been careful to say that he remains loyal to the Jays.

"I don't really care how the fans take it," he said. "If they can't read the part that I said where I'm at right now in my mind, then, whatever. I'm a Blue Jay now and I'm a Blue Jay until they tell me otherwise. I'm proud of that."

And another quote by Burnett from another article.

Link.

"Who would not want to play for the Cubs, bottom line?" he said.

Reminds me of when Sam Cassell was proposing he would be a great fit for the Celtics....

Either way, he's quickly becoming one of my favorite non-cubs players. I'm going to try to catch his next few starts to see if he looks as good as he did against us.

John Gibbons is going to challenge him to a fight.

Considering Tyler Colvin is supposed to be the next Alex Rios, they might be interested in him. :D

AJ Burnett is #2 on my wishlist. I'm worried about his injury history and ability to pitch a full season, but not nearly as much so as Rich Harden (who has only pitched more than 150 IP once in his career). He's got great stuff and would be a buy low opportunity for the Cubs at this point. His contract runs through 2010 ($12m per year in '08, '09, and '10), but Burnett has an opt-out clause after this season (which he is unlikely to exercise). Considering he and Lilly get paid the same amount in '09 and '10, his contract would be fairly palatable.

If the Blue Jays are open to trading with the Cubs, I'm hoping Hendry would also kick the tires on Halladay and Ryan, just to see if there'd be any possibility of the Blue Jays parting with either. I really doubt the Blue Jays would be willing to part with either (especially Halladay), but you never know with these things.

What would the Cubs want with B.J. Ryan? The pen is already solid and he's due to make $10M in 2009 and 2010. No thanks.

I'd really like it if JH didn't wait until July. This seems like the time at which AJ's value will be lowest

Exactly. Strike while the iron is hot.

Would this be a salary dump or is he a FA after the year? If it's not a salary thing, why not try to ship Marquis over, seeing as he's about at his peak value at the moment.

I believe he's signed through at least 09.

He's signed through 2010, but he can opt out at the end of the year.

He would probably have to overpay for Burnett to get him right now. The Blue Jays will likely wait to see what contender gets desperate unless someone knocks their socks off with an offer.

Burnett would be a good choice for the Cubs. I'd still wait to see if Sabathia is available before moving on Burnett for two reasons. First, if Sabathia is available, he'd be the better player to acquire. Secondly, if Sabathia is available but the Cubs don't have enough to get him (which is a definite possibility), the price on Burnett will drop because the contenders will be pushing hard for Sabathia. Even if C.C. is never available, it's likely going to cost as much or more to acquire him now than at the deadline.

I'd love to have Burnett, and he's got tons of upside. However, he's got an insane injury history and it wasn't that long ago that the Blue Jays were so fed up with his nonstop injuries that they publicly questioned whether he was seriously hurt... The odds are overwhelming that he'd spend some time on the DL this year.

The Blue Jays aren't trading him until the deadline, if at all. Doing a salary dump (and selling low on top of that) in mid June when the team is just 1 game under .500 and 6 games out of the Wild Card would be one sure fire way to make sure fans don't attend anymore games for the rest of the year, or probably the year after that.

Asked Sunday about his statement that he'd welcome a trade to the Cubs, A.J. Burnett said, "I don't really care about how the fans take it."

Burnett can opt out of his contract at the end of this season. "Who wouldn't want to play for the Cubs?" Burnett said. "As of right now, I'm a Blue Jay and I'm going to pitch to the best of my ability as long as I'm part of this club, but if something were to happen and I'd have the opportunity to go to a place where baseball is breakfast, lunch, and dinner, that would be awesome. Right now, my focus is with the club, but if something like that were to happen, I'd accept it with open arms."

Doesnt sound like he cares what anyone thinks.

in the ideal scenario his playoff and world series performances are so great he cant resist becoming a FA, and he's off the books for 08 and 09.

As long as it's with the Cubs. Heck, I'd love to have Burnett on board for a few years anyway.

that part about 'who wouldn't want to be a cub?' makes me tear up a bit.

i honestly don't care if it's sabbathia, harden, or burnett. if we get one of those three, this roster will be sitting pretty.
