exactly ping. the cubs see carlos zambrano. I see Kyle Farnsworth. He'll replace Marmol when Carlos goes on the 60-day in July.

I like it. Hope Gillaspie is at 41.

What do you like about it? I don't hate the move as the Cubs have had some success drafting live arms, but I find it hard to get too excited about him as a first round selection.

My question is where were they on money when they failed to sign him after last year's draft? And does signability play a role here?

He wasn't drafted for signability.

I'm smitten with his delivery:

Just clean, easy heat and a hammer breaking ball. And he should move very quickly once he is signed.

I'd take a gamble at 41 now, if Gillaspie isn't around.

IMO, he was the BPA. Law had him #20 overall, BA in the top 25.

I had the impression that the Cubs draft the last couple years were meant to supply multiple guys who could make the majors, not necessarily star in, but make the majors. This guy certainly seems to fit the model.

He seems intriguing at least.

Cleveland drafts Lonnie Chisenhall??? He goes to Pitt Community College about 3 miles down the road!

ETA: Whoops, meant to go in the general draft thread.

Assuming he signs quickly, where does he start?

Outside of the 3 innings he'll throw at Mesa, I'd guess Daytona.

Different sport..but I think this pick is much like the Raiders drafting Janikowski in the first round a few years ago..yes he has been success as a placekicker, but it still wasn't a great pick...because a kicker isn't in a position to provide as much value to the team as traditional player.

I'm more pissed about this than I was about signing Edmonds.

Why?

The post above yours aptly covers my reasoning.

Huh?

A weird comaprison to the NFL Draft is your reasoning?

Nobody knows how any of these kids are going to turn out. They are not many guarantees in the MLB draft. To be too high or too low about a pick at this point doesn't make much sense. Let it play out.

Wow that's a stretch. A placekicker that high in the NFL draft is worlds different to a relief pitcher in the first round of the MLB draft. I don't think their relative values are comparable either.
