Very solid college shortstop -- big but not especially athletic, but not a great shortstop.

I put Alvarez in there as a comparison since he played the same competition.

Player AVG GP-GS AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB SLG% BB HBP SO GDP OB% SF SH SB-ATT PO A E FLD%

This guy reminds me of DeRosa more than Theriot.

I definitely agree with the DeRosa (as he is now) comp over Theriot. Here's a video of him (warning: some of the shots are either some bad camera angles or some plays that really aren't that impressive, but overall it's a pretty good look at him).

Sweet, maybe we can show this to Pittsburgh and they will want to trade.

Good call on the DeRosa comp. I've actually seen Flaherty play some when I was following Price last year, definately not a bad pick.

You're not FREAKING OUT enough.

So Ryan Theriot 2.0

No, Theriot wasn't a top 70 draft prospect.

So a rich man's Ryan Theriot?

Small, athletic, bad SS

Yep 6'3, 210 is small.

DeRosa seems a good comp, in part because DeRosa is the current 2B and if Flaherty was to progress really well/fast (as might be possible), he might possibly be in the mix for 2B after DeRosa's contract runs out.

They've been wanting a left-handed 2B. If he could hit and reach base like Todd Walker, while fielding a little better than DeRosa and being baseball smart unlike Walker, that would be a great value for a pick in the 40's.

Obviously not a very exciting pick. His K's were way up this junior year, and his batting average well down. Awful lot of K's (over 40 K's in college this year!) to be a Wally Joyner-type average hitter.

I want to be small in a world where 6'3" is small.

Small? Face it, he is nothing like Theriot. He's big, athletic, slower, and lefty. That doesn't sound like Ryan Theriot.

Flaherty hit .381 his soph year btw.

He's not small (6 foot 3, 210 pounds). To compare, that's 2 inches taller and 5 pounds heavier than DeRosa. He's got a good arm, unlike Theriot, and he has more power than Theriot does now, plus a little bit of added power potential in the future.

There are much better comps for Flaherty than Ryan Theriot.

He'd have to move extremely fast to be the starter in 2010.

I'll stick with the Utley one somebody else mentioned.

From his production and scouting reports I really don't think he just projects as a utility man. If he can stick in the middle infield he could be a really nice pick.

I don't know what's a bigger overreaction. Flaherty or Josh Donaldson last year.

Okay, um, where's all this freaking out and a overreacting?

YAWN. A SS who won't stick there and won't hit enough to be a corner guy.
The Cubs drafted a utility player.
I can't wait to read about the stuff he does that doesn't show up in the box score.
I would like us to draft a welder who can hit, as opposed to Tall Theriot.

Yeah but he's terrible. Theriotesque

And I guarantee maybe one of these guys has ever watched a Vandy game. Add to the point that he is absolutely nothing like Ryan Theriot whatsoever.

A handful of sarcastic comments equates to freaking out?
