Hoffpauir was barely OPSing above 1000, good riddance. I for one enjoy ineffective bullpen usage and a surplus of middle infielders. Edited by tfarks

Don't mind having another arm in the pen for the next week or so. I would have preferred to see Ascanio back, but know that it's not "legal" to do so at this moment. After next Monday's off day, I would think that Hart/Cotts will go back to AAA with Ward activated and/or Pie/Hoff recalled?

Yeah, I imagine Hart goes back down whenever Ward is ready.

With Marquis and Lilly slated for the next two games, and the BP being taxed with 3-4 pitchers used and an average 4 innings of work per game over the past week or so, it's definitely a smart move.

This is completely pointless, but if it means a little less overuse of Marmol, I guess I can live with it. Hoff deserves better though.

Marmol hasn't looked as good in the last week. He's looking like a lower-end all-star instead of a hall of famer. I have no problem with this move. We need to lighten Marmol and Woods workload a little bit. Our bench is stacked without Hoff, it's a worthwhile tradeoff in the short term.

There's been no specific update on Ward recently other than he's not with the team, but Hoffpauir wasn't going to remain with the team once Ward is activated.

Micah will be back in September, and probably in next year when Edmonds, Ward, and Johnson are gone.

Apparently Lou and Jim have never heard the old cliche If aint broke, dont fix it.

At least they could have brought back Ascanio.

That sucks. I love Michah. I looked up his EqA today and it was something like .333. (I know - sample size, but still) However, the pen is being overworked by our meh starters, so I get the move.

Can we get Micah back up in time to DH for the Toronto series?

The answer is yes. If Ward isn't ready (and the hopeful target date for his return is that series) I think the Cubs should be able to bring Hoffpauir back up right before the Toronto series starts. I believe the rule is 10 days, and that should be precisely 10 days. At worst, they'll be able to bring him up after the first Toronto game.

According to Cubs.com the plan is to have either Ward or Hoff back for the toronto series to be the DH. One pitcher will go down then. Likely to be Weurtz if Hart does well this week.
