Wow.

Just wow.

The Cubs and Rockies have yet another classic game that people will be talking about for years. In three of them, the Cubs came out on top. I can't decide if I like the August 2001 game, last year's 6-run comeback game, or the 5/30 game the best. All are classics.

Anyway, in this game the Rockies trot out former Cub Fatty McGee (aka Glendon Rusch)

1-2, 6.48 ERA, 1.68 WHIP

vs

Ryan Dempster

6-2, 2.56 ERA, 1.09 WHIP

That goatee is badass.

There is NO reason at all, zip, zero, nada that we can't hit Rusch like the BP pitcher he is and make it 6 in a row.

Let's go Cubs!

This may strike some as unbelievable, but I've been to all three of the games you describe. My personal choice would be last year's. It provided an absolutely amazing emotional swing. From the depths of despair to absolute euphoria in one inning.

Nah, I enjoyed that win, but I'm not a fan of games that threaten to rip out my heart only to hold back at the very last second.

My all-time favorite was the 2001 game. Mongo getting kicked out and the run-down to end the game were insane and memorable for all the right reasons.

Since they are demoted to Cobs and Losers when doing bad, shouldn't they be like Super Cubs right now? Or maybe the SOAPDROPPING Crazy Bears...Something like that.

Yeah, just like I predicted: We're not going to hit fly balls today. Lots of grounders and we won't get a sniff.

Going back to work now. A New Era, have fun with tomorrow's game thread.

Hopefully the Rockies will have breast cancer on 2nd base tomorrow. Or at least a bunch of Cubs baserunners.

I wasn't trying to make a point, just joking around.

I was at the local gym lifting and I kept going to tvs to check up on the game and when I saw they blew the lead I started screaming at random strangers at the gym

Later on teh drive home I heard the call from Pat and Ron when Soriano drove in the winning run, it was pretty cool.

That sounds like you're tempting fate. I'd leave the Cubs as Cubs, no reason to claim more than they deserve right now.

Here I was thinking I was going to see most of the game today, as I was scheduled 3-midnight. However, I was called in and will now work from 11-8 missing most of the game. I may be able to catch a half-inning or so on my break. So it won't be my fault if the Cubs don't beat the hell out of Rusch today.

Normally, this would have all the makings of a letdown game. Big comeback expending a lot of energy. But the Cubs 3 best hitters (Lee, Ramirez, Soto) should be well rested, along with Theriot and Johnson, and be ready to swing the bats today. And the Rockies are a mess right now. They are injured and trying to piece together a lineup and rotation. Glendon Rusch is on the mound for the Rockies today. He spent the first 5-6 weeks of the season in the San Diego bullpen, and has just 2 minor league starts this year. Stamina (due to lack of starts not weight) and the fact that he's not very good, should be key factors today. Not a good scenario for a team that probably doesn't have Corpas (darn!) or Buchholz available today.

Dempster should have every chance to go deep into this game today. Rocks probably stack the lineup w/ LHs today, but the names Smith, Podsednik, Stewart, and Quintanilla don't exactly strike fear into opponents, though admittedly Smith kills RHPs and Stewart looks like a good hitter. If Dempster can keep the ball on the ground as usual, the Rockies lineup today should look at lot like the Dodgers team he just beat in his last start. The Cubs probably don't have Marmol or Wood available today. Though, Carlos has thrown just 23 pitches and Wood 31. Hopefully, they won't need them anyway.

Cubs have only lost 8 home games. I've been to 3 games so far this season and they've lost 2 of the 3. I am going today. I apologize in advance if my bad mojo ruins a good thing.

I'm 3-3 this year at Wrigley (losses were Opening Day, the Shawn Estes game, and the first game of the second Milwaukee series). So they are 21-5 when I'm not there.
