I stand corrected. I just checked the TiVo on the Edmonds error. The last I saw was the camera shot of Soriano drifitng towards the ball.

Look on the bright side. We lost the game but Edmonds is as good as gone. It's about time somebody put that old dog to sleep.

New to being a Cubs fan?

"This has got to be Shawn Estes' last start."

"Lenny Harris has surely played himself out a job."

"At least we won't have to worry about Theriot starting at SS next year" (though this one isn't turning out so bad."

"Well, at least Neifi is just a rental."

"If we catch lightning in a bottle with Gaetti, great, but even if not it's not like he'll be back next year."

"This has got to be Jason Marquis' last start."

But who do they replace him with?

I have faith that Hendry could find someone worse.

If Pie isn't going to play, then I'd be in favor of a straight Johnson/Lofton platoon. Kenny should be good for a .350 OBP against righties.

Ellis Burks goes yard.

Ellis Burks just homered

hahahahahahahahaha

Don't forget my Ellis Burks knock!!

Ellis Burks and Walt Weiss want in on some of the action too.

I found it hilarious they basically simul-posted that, not the Ellis Burks mention.

why not just leave lilly in to throw BP for a couple more innings? the game is already over; no need to chew up the bullpen more than it already will be.

I agree with this.

Plus, Lilly works pretty slowly, so the combination of Lilly getting hammered + length of time in between pitches could result in a rainout.

BP hinted that Lofton is a phone call away.

Lieber and Cotts should be able to finish it, leaving the important bullpen people fresh.

I'd rather just give Pie a little time at AAA to get his confidence back up and then bring him up to start against right handers.

Is that even possible at this point?

With Pie struggling at AAA right now, for the first time this year I'm actually intrigued about Lofton. Although his defense in center would be brutal.

Fred McGriff is upset at his exclusion from this list.

Yep, he wants to hit against Lilly too.

Although I still say it's funny, the "xxx just homered" game peters out fast with a team less than two decades old.

Just wait until Lilly gets a start against the Devil Rays.

Lofton? Our CF defense just keeps getting worse and worse and worse.

I'll accept him on the condition that every Cubs fan be made aware that our offense got worse after the Lofton/Ramirez trade that season.

That would be my preference, too.

Even though Reed Johnson sucks he's at least better than Edmonds is. He had no business coming here at all. Was Eric Patterson bad at CF? Did Cedeno look like he could have played CF? I know they tested both of them out there before.

Charlie Hayes doubles to the gap.

OK, I'm done.

This is a horrible decision by Lou. Just accept a freaking loss, let Lilly try to pitch himself out of this mess.

Its a bit over the top to call it horrible. Lieber can easily throw 3-4 innings regardless of what happens.

Oh it is possible. This is Jim Hendry we are talking about. You just challenged him, I see him getting Bob Dernier out of retirement anyday now. But, in order to do so will end up trading away Gallagher.
