Noah isn't nearly as athletic as Chandler. Thomas is athletic, but he has no offensive talent other than dunking. Paxson should have taken Aldridge. Hughes is signed through next year also.

Thomas and Chandler are basically mirror images of each other.

that was insane. As I watched the 9 not be the bulls I was ecstatic, and then then number 3 wasn't them either. #1 is unbelievable.

How do you know that if you are not number 9 you must be 3 or better?

1.9% chance. Amazing.

The way the lottery works. Only the top 3 are determined by lottery, the rest of the picks are by record for the teams that didn't win a top 3 spot. That's why it was impossible for the Bulls to land picks 4-8. Therefore, when the Bulls were not announced at #9, it meant they were top 3.

I can't tell if you're disagreeing or not, but I'm willing to be wrong.

Chandler is a tall (er than Thomas) guy that can run and jump. Thomas is a tall guy that can run and jump. Chandler's one offensive move is jumping and catching an alley-oop from Paul.

Could the Bulls get Elton Brand and Corey Magette from the Clippers for Kirk Hinrich, Larry Hughes, and Tyrus Thomas?

Here's the Bulls lineup:

PG: Derrick Rose

SG: Corey Maggette

SF: Luol Deng (resigned)

PF: Elton Brand

C: Joakim Noah

Bench: Ben Gordon, random backup PG, Thabo Sefolosha, Andres Nocioni, Aaron Gray, Cedric Simmons, random backup PF/C, random backup SG/SF, Jameson Curry (inactive), Demetius Nichols (inactive)

That's true, he's definitely better with the ball in his hand than Chandler is. But Thomas still has nothing resembling a go-to move on offense. Unless something changes in the offseason, you're never going to dump the ball in the post to him and clear out.

Unlike the sentiment on this board, a lot of the mock drafts have the Bulls taking Beasley.

I think they are making a big assumption- that the Bulls are content with Hinrich. I certainly am not. He's a solid player, but the Bulls are going nowhere with him at PG unless they have superstars elsewhere. He's no star, never will be.

I agree that we should trade him. He may have some value. Try and get an inside scorer outside of the draft. They have tradeable assets and some money. They should sign and trade Gordon also if they have to (too bad Isaiah isn't still around). He's one dimensional and is a poor ball handler.

It's been a long time since the team had a player that can create off the dribble. Hopefully, Pax sees it this way also.

I doubt the Clippers would do that, but that would be sweet from the Bulls point of view. Then again, I wouldn't mind the Bulls doing whatever this offseason (besides getting Rose, and then throwing the bank at Wade next year). Rose and Wade would be absolutely incredible).

Don't they both have opt out clauses? Maggette is supposed to be gone anyways as a FA, Elton is coming off an injury and may stick around. Elton still only has another year remaining, so I'd say he's definitely tradeable. After all, the Clippers arent going anywhere in the West in 2008-9.

Are the Clippers trying to trade Brand and Maggette?

I believe Brand missed most (all?) of last season with surgery and can opt out of his contract either this offseason or next. I don't think they've been entirely happy with Maggette the last few years. I wouldn't think they are actively shopping them, but there is a lot of uncertainty with Brand and Al Thornton had a solid rookie season at the forward position, so they might want to move Brand before he opts out of his contract.

Brand can opt out of his contract this summer and they have been trying to deal Maggette for two yrs, IIRC.

That said, you'd have to do a sign and trade with both of them, as Maggette's deal is also at an end. I can't see Pax committing long term deals to them.

All I can say is that John Paxson and the Bulls have been completely bailed out by the lottery. They were really stuck being a marginal playoff team, not good enough to compete for the title and not bad enough to get a franchise-changing player in the lottery. After seeing high picks of Curry, Chandler, and Thomas go to waste, it's time to draft Rose and build this team around a true franchise player. With Rose penciled in at point guard, they have plenty of other pieces to play with in the trade market and build a solid team around him. I haven't been this excited about the Bulls in quite some time... we may finally have a player who is exciting enough to demand watching.

Nash can only dream of being so athletic.

I'm not really an NBA guy (I live for college basketball), but I think the Bulls almost have to take Rose. I know there are Beasley supporters out there, but Rose gives you so much, especially at a position you currently NEED to fill.

Beasley plays a position that the Bulls need to fill as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love either of them. This is an awesome position to be in. I still think Paxson is high on Hinrich though and that ultimately he's going to take Beasley.

As much as Paxson still loves his first pick in Hinrich, but he's still equally still high on Thomas and Noah. Paxson has to take Rose, not because he is only the best G to come into the league since Wade (I said G, not a hybrid G/F like Anthony/James), but because of the good PR they would get for drafting the home grown talent. You almost have to take Rose.

I'd be shocked if Hinrich gets traded. Our little white PG GM isn't going to trade his little white PG (formerly coached by a little white PG)

yeah, the bulls can now dump their "nucleus" and actually try to win.

derrick rose is a very unique player.

i'd still take eric gordon.

I love Eric Gordon's athleticism and burst, but I don't think he's much of a basketball player right now. He has as much upside as Rose in my estimation, but is far more raw. I think he'll take years longer to be a major contributor than Rose will. Granted, I never really saw him early on when he wasn't shooting 37% from the field. But that's precisely why I question his ability to contribute early on.
