Any one want to actually comment on how horrible Rich Hill has been and how he IS a headcase with little to zero confidence? I don't know how you can suggest we leave him in a game to get beat around, when he has no confidence when the game is 0-0. Along with Soriano, he gave the Cardinals that game last night. And this isn't something new. He's been throwing like this since Spring Training. I watched him walk 6 and get hit around in 1 2/3 in a st game.

I commented in the offseason how we were a #2 pitcher short of being a real contender. (we can win the division as currently constructed) But got the stat heads all over me with Rich Hill's numbers and they all ignored how he pitched in September and in the playoffs last year. Plus I was told Ted Lilly is a nice #2, even though last year was the only time he ever pitched that way in his career - even he seems to be reverting to his natural decent #3 status.

We have an ace, and four #3-#4 starters. This is not a World Series contender and the Diamondbacks would crush us in any type of series.

I can only hope that the non-Roberts trade, has now allowed us to have enough tradable assets to acquire a real deal #2 starter.

I know, dude. I was screaming at my TV when Soriano hit that HR. That was pretty much what won the game for the Cards.

Hill has walked 18 guys in 19 innings. He threw 27 pitches in one inning last night, 17 of them balls. Did you really think it was going to get better? Hill's not a pitcher who toughens up after a rough inning, he's a guy who falls apart when he gets to the rough inning.

Which pitcher was killing the bullpen? Hill, even before last night wasn't averaging five innings per start.

So he goes to Iowa, it's not like they had to DFA him, and you're all up in arms. I don't get it. As for moving Lieber to the rotation, look at his stats for those of you in the "he's not stretched out!" camp. He's pitched exactly one third of an inning less than Hill. That ought to show you how great Hill's been. He's pitched as many innings as five starts as a guy who's made nine relief appearances.

Ideally, I would like to see Gallagher get the start on Wednesday, but Lou's feelings toward Marquis are a lot like his feelings towards Hill in my opinion. I think if Gallagher looks solid coming out of the pen, then when Marquis inevitably fails the next time, Lou may give Sean the shot.

Ahh of course, he had a rough month in Sept and the playoffs, and that far out weighs his previous 5 months of above average pitching. That sure makes some sense.

Can't say I'm surprised in the least that Gallagher has been called up to be buried in the bullpen. Cubs management can suck my butt.

Oh dont worry Sean will get used after about 6-7 days off and then struggle and everybody will say hes a AAAA pitcher, and get sent back down.

If the Cubs starting rotation continues like it has the first month, Gallagher will get plenty of work, just like Lieber has.

I don't really have a problem sending Rich down at this point. He reminds me of what happens when I overthink my golf swing.

I'd rather see Gallagher in the rotation though.

I really, REALLY hate this organization sometimes. Maybe the Indians should send C.C. Sabathia down too. Hell, the Marlins even keep trotting out Andrew Miller despite the fact that he's getting rocked. The defending NL Champs keep going with Ubaldo Jimenez and he's walked 22 batters. All these guys have also been giving up a lot of runs, which Rich Hill has not been doing. He has a 4.12 ERA. I understand he isn't going deep into games and our bullpen is "taxed", but that's mostly Lou's fault. He'll leave Marquis out there to give up 10 hits in 5 innings, but will pull Hill in the first inning because he walked a run in. Then on top of that he uses a converted starter for only one batter per game. Sorry for ranting, but this is just so incredibly ridiculous. Let's hope Hill goes down to AAA and has a couple solid starts and limits the BB so we can get our 2nd best starting pitcher back into the rotation.

Did you just compare Rich Hill with CC Sabathia?

Yet, Lilly was worse in the playoffs and had a worse month of April, which the stat head in me figured out was more recent than September. I understand that not being able to find the strikezone is a lot different than being hit hard and it is a real problem. It just kills me that Rich Hill and Felix Pie, the cheapest and least experienced "starters" on the team, are publicly ridiculed for not performing after getting jerked around and sitting for several days. Yet, people performing at a lesser level are getting chances to get on track.

I didn't know which thread to put this in.

This quote makes me want to vomit.

"He didn't take it very well. He understands. He was more upset at himself. He's a good kid. He really is. He's been worrying a lot. He needs to relax and just go pitch."

Yanking him after 2/3 of inning and demoting him to AAA will help his worry. This will all work out in the end, I'm sure of that.

It will when the Cardinals or Atlanta claims him next year.

Better rotation?

Zambrano

Lilly

Marquis

Dempster

Lieber

or

Zambrano

Hill

Marshall

Gallagher

Hart

At least Iowa should look pretty good with Hill, Hart, Ascanio, Cotts, and Murton.

Wow.

So is gallagher going to the rotation or is Leiber/Marshall getting pushed in?

Lieber is going to the rotation.

Marshall will be playing LF. When a lefty comes up to bat, Marshall will run in from LF and pitch to that left hander. Leiber will run out to LF. Then, when a righty comes back up, Leiber will come back from LF and pitch again. Lou is calling it the craptastic two-handed monster.

Lou actually almost did this with Marshall and Hart a couple weeks ago. I believe that Hart was going to play LF for one batter, then come back in to pitch, but he decided against it at the last minute.

Maybe they should have left him in for 3-4 innings, and let him walk 12 guys. That would have made it even better.

I'll take that third one as well.
